Top Up And Coming UFC Fighters
As many people and Mixed martial arts fans know the ufc is the biggest organisation out of them all and holds the contracts of the best fighters in the world, the ufc is also promoting and increasing the awareness of this most popular sport across the world. As 2010 comes to an end and we look back at some of the best fights in the world of mma let us look forward into 2011 and the new and upcoming ufc fighters who will no doubt be entertaining us in this coming year. There are some stand out talents that will no doubt be challanging for titles soon and there are a couple of fighters that may need a little longer to progress but it is clear they have an outstanding natural talent.
This kid is something special, although when he first fought in the ufc nobody gave him much of a hope,at 6ft11 inches tall he was somewhat gangly and lacked a solid build. What did impress despite registering a couple of losses is how in fights where it seems he is about to get knocked out or submitted he has fought back with incredible heart and won, that my friends is something you cannot teach and will stand him in good stead for the coming year. His record is 21-4-0 which is good by anyone's standards. He is starting to bulk up a bit and we will see how far his striking can come on in the coming year but i have high hopes for Mr Struve.
This young stand out talent is in the lightweight division but is still one to watch his record of 11-1-0 tells you that,His ground game is fantastic and his stand up is coming along in leaps and bounds,he is starting to take on the top talent in the ufc's lightweight division and only just lost a fight to former champion Sean Sherk although it is widely contested that Dunham won that fight. He was due to face Kenny Florian but due to an injury by Florian he is now facing Melvin Guillard who although dangerous on his feet i expect Dunham to submit him no later than the second round, watch this kid he is going places.
Mr wonderful he is called and for a good reason with an undefeated 8-0 record he is one of the top stand outs for 2010 and i expect more from Davis this coming year,His wrestling base is outstanding and he shows no fear in standing and trading punches and kicks with anybody,he is making slow progress but it is all good, his submission skills are coming on leaps and bounds as well which he showed by submitting Tim Boetsch recently with a strange Kimura that he renamed the "philmura".This guy has the size, power, and wrestling base to be able to reign atop the light heavyweight division,by the end of this coming year he will be in the top 5 of the division.
Jon "Bones" Jones
This young kid got upcoming fighter of the year for 2010 but i think he will continue to make an impression in 2011,his record is 12-1-0 but that sole loss was due to disqualification due to illegal elbows, still even before that he was clearly winning and hasn't looked like losing since he has been in the ufc,What this chap needs is a serious test at light heavyweight,he needs a top 10 fighter to push him,i feel he needs to step up against a Thiago Silva or Possibly now Rampage Jackson,This kid has size, reach advantage and great wrestling as well as decent stand up and sci fi like moves which he pulls off with regularity such as spinning elbows and flying kicks,This kid will be top 5 this coming year no question.
Anthony "Showtime" Pettis certainly lived up to his nickname in the last ever WEC event before it amalgamated into the UFC.Not only was Pettis fighting Ben Henderson who is one of the best lightweight fighters in the world, but he gave it his all throughout the whole fight and never gave up even when at certain points he looked outclassed, and saying that with just a minute left in the 5th round and most possibly losing the fight Pettis pulled out a movie style kick,As Henderson backpedaled Pettis launched off the cage with his right foot then with the momentum produced threw a wicked roundhouse kick to Hendersons head which dropped him and damn near knocked him out,Pettis nicked the result and became the last wec champion and therefore has first shot at the lightweight title.
This young British fighter had an unblemished record until recently but has already beaten Diego Sanchez quite convincingly,he is one of the only British fighters to have quite good wrestling skills as well as good stand up and a big build for the welterweight division. He trains at London Shootfighters but has trained with Eddie Bravo at 10th planet jiu jitsu. The future looks bright for this young talent.
