Top 20 WWE Superstars of 2019 - Part 2

Updated on January 8, 2020

Avid fan of Wrestling writes about WWE, AEW, NJPW. I love to write stories, articles and poems.

After the first part of the article were I talked about my favorite WWE Superstars of 2019, ranked from 20 to 11, this part 2 is about the Superstars who did not make the cut but deserve to be mentioned. With that being said here is the list of my Honorable mentions. A small disclaimer and a spoiler, I have a few names that are not from WWE, I really wanted to talk about these superstars as they have impressed me throughout 2019.

1. Otis

Otis is one of the most entertaining wrestlers of 2019. Otis has been really exciting to watch and him rubbing his belly for some odd reason is entertaining. Otis for a man of his stature pulls of one hell of a worm. It is sad that despite all the opportunities him and Tucker had, the Heavy Machinery failed to win the Tag Team titles. I do hope in 2020 they become Tag Team Champions – They most truly deserve that.

2. Lio Rush

Rush had a weird start to 2019. In early 2019 Lio Rush was the Hype-man for Bobby Lashley and then the duo broke up. Lio then had to suffer an injury putting him in the sidelines for most of 2019. Rush then made a return back to NXT and won the Cruiserweight Championship. Rush’s wrestling skill is remarkable. 2020 I hope to see a lot more innovative and unique wrestling from this lad.

3. Matt Riddle

When you want talk about exceptional in-ring ability you have to talk about Matt Riddle, Riddle has had some excellent wrestling matches this year, the matches with Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole, Finn Balor all were fantastic. Riddle has been teasing a match against Goldberg and hopefully that will be the retirement match for Goldberg.

4. Finn Balor

Finn Balor kicked off 2019 with becoming the no.1 contender to Brock Lesnar’s WWE Universal Championship. It was a very good match and for a moment in the match I truly believed Finn Balor could win the title. It was a very unique match. One would think from such a great match, he would be moving forward in his career doing greater things but his momentum only lasted a little while. Balor went on to defeat Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush to win the Intercontinental Championship and lost it shortly after to Shinsuke Nakamura. Balor after this loss lost all his momentum. He then jobbed out to the Fiend in his first match at SummerSlam. I though that was it for Balor he is done for good. But boy was I wrong he was called back to NXT and he has been killing it there. Balor regained all his lost momentum and he ensured Finn Balor is NXT. 2020 is looking bright for this young man and we could potentially see him become NXT Champion this year.

5. Chris Jericho

There are very few superstars outside WWE that really impressed me this year (to be honest I have not seen much wrestling outside WWE and the few that I saw really impressed me and they all made this list). Jericho a former WWE Superstar, joined hands with Cody and the Young Bucks to begin All Elite Wrestling. Jericho was by far the best thing in this promotion (at least for me, I was not really impressed by AEW but Jericho never failed to impress me). Jericho won the AEW World Heavyweight Championship and has been champion ever since. No matter how many years pass, Jericho will forever be the G.O.A.T.

6. Jon Moxley

2019 was the last time we saw Dean Ambrose inside a WWE ring. Ambrose had a bad year in WWE and it was sad to see a man of such good talent to be so under utilized. WWE creative truly are the worst people at their job. Dean Ambrose was given horrible storylines and segments forcing him to not resign with the company. Ambrose then shockingly made his debut at AEW’s Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View to attack Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. He made his debut under his old wrestling name Jon Moxley. He had some insane matches against Hangman Page, Pac and a brutal match against Kenny Omega at AEW Full Gear. He is now involved in the main event storyline with Chris Jericho and it will be interesting to see how this story plays out.

7. Ronda Rousey

The first half of 2019 belonged to the women of WWE. Especially because of superstars like Ronda Rousey. She had a great feud building from 2018 and culminated at WrestleMania 35. The only thing I hated was the way she became heel, she started calling WWE fake and that undermined her loss overall and I wish creative did not go that route to end this wonderful story that evolved naturally. With all the negativity aside, Rousey put out a great show at WrestleMania and even with a broken wrist managed to wrestle the whole match. There are rumors that she will be returning in 2020 to win the Royal Rumble, I will love to see that and her facing Becky Lynch in their rematch at WrestleMania 36.

8. Charlotte Flair

When it comes to talking about the best wrestlers in WWE or even in the world for that matter, Charlotte is someone who cannot be ignored. Charlotte Flair is one of the best wrestlers in the world. Every time she wrestles it is a spectacle. I do not like how WWE push her so much that she will always be the one getting the opportunities. That being said she is an exceptional talent and I am looking forward to her matches in 2020.

9. Rhea Ripley

I do not really watch NXT UK but I have heard about Ripley and her being the youngest NXT UK Women’s Champion. I have barely seen any of her matches until she came into NXT. Rhea’s time in NXT was fantastic; her NXT debut was mind blowing. Rhea had a fantastic showing at NXT: Takeover War Games in the first ever War Games match. She was built very well to be the one to dethrone Shayna Baszler. And in the final NXT Live Rhea Ripley defeated Shayna to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

10. Bayley

WWE finally answered our prayers in 2019. Bayley finally became Women’s Champion and actually held on to it longer and is being built as an exceptional champion. 2019 started of for Bayley in glorious fashion, her and Sasha Banks became the inaugural Women’s Tag Team Champions and lost it to the IIconics. Bayley then went on to win the Women’s Money In The Bank and cashed it in on the same night to become SmackDown Lie Women’s Champion. She then almost immediately lost the title to Charlotte and won it right back even faster. Bayley in this process had an amazing heel turn and is now ruling the SmackDown women’s division.

11. Will Ospreay

One of the most impressive wrestlers I have ever seen is Will Ospreay. He is so innovative and does thing that defies the laws of Physics. Every match he wrestles is unique and his matches are always mind-boggling and I am always flabbergasted watching his matches. Ospreay has had great matches this year against great superstars all over the world such as Walter, Kenta (Hideo Itami), Evil and many more. 2020 I will have the opportunity to watch him more and I am so excited already.

This is my list of the honorable mentions of awesome superstars in 2019. I would just like re-iterate what I said in Part-1 this is just my opinion if mine matches yours well and good if not it is also fine. I will be back with the Part -3 of this Top 20 series with the top 10 superstars of 2019.
