Top Crossfit Footwear For WODs

Updated on August 19, 2014

What Type Of Footwear Is Best For Crossfit

Picking the right footwear is important. Your foot needs to be stable inside of your shoes to be able to perform many of the Crossfit movements. A Crossfit shoe should be able to withstand jumping, climbing, running, and pressure from weightlifting.

The best shoe for a Crossfit is very minimalist. In fact, many Crossfitters use a barefoot shoe for their WODS

Reebok Crossfit Footwear

Reebok is the official Crossfit sponsor; Reebok Crossfit Nano shoes have been crafted specifically for the sport of Crossfit. They are very light; give enough cushioning as well as stability.

Reebok has a few styles of Crossfit Shoes:

Crossfit Nano (minimalist first generation Nano shoe)

Crossfit Nano 2.0 (minimalist 2nd generation Nano shoe)

  • Both Nano and Nano 2.0 are great for running, jumping, lifting, climbing, etc.

Crossfit Oly U-Form (great shoe for weightlifting Crossfit exercises)

This is an extremely comfortable shoe which breathes very well during Crossfit WODs. They are also great for the lifting exercises as they have a stable platform to put all of the weight on.

Overview Of What To Look For In A Crossfit Shoe

Here is an overview of the basic things to look for in a great Crossfit shoe:

  • Lightweight
  • Versatile For Different Exercises
  • Breathable
  • Flexible
  • Stable For Power-lifting
  • Barefoot Feel For Better Foot Mechanics
  • Minimalist

Note: If you have flat feet or a very high arch, you can get a minimalist shoe and add an insert for a perfect fit. I happen to have very high arches so jumping around on a minimalist shoe doesn't always feel good. Although there are many shoes made specifically for high arches, I choose to get a minimalist shoe as seen above and just add an insert.

I have a pair of Inov-8's Bare X Lite 150 running shoes and find they're awesome for crossfit and pretty much any gym style workouts. They're fantastic shoes which offer so much ground control that I feel they can enhance my squat pb and help my power generation when performing standard lifts- They're great on the treadmill too
