Top Moments of Smackdown Live 8/2/16

Updated on August 5, 2016

Top Moments

The second week of Smackdown Live was filled with highs and lows. Although a majority of the buzz online praised Smackdown even going as far to say it was better than RAW. Let’s take a look at the top moments that had fans talking.

Ambrose & Ziggler segment

The opening segment this week consisted of WWE champion Dean Ambrose and #1 contender Dolph Ziggler facing off. Ziggler’s surprise win last week had many fans baffled.

Why did WWE choose Ziggler?

How does the Ambrose/Ziggler feud play out?

Well, on Tuesday we got answers to both those questions. Ziggler delivered in his promo as he and Ambrose both explained why they deserve to be champion. Ziggler’s emotion showed as he explained how he’s been overlooked the last few years, but now it was his time to shine. Ambrose shrugged off Ziggler’s words, claiming The Show Off isn’t as good as he says he is.

If that promo wasn’t enough to get you invested in this feud, then I don’t know what will.

Apollo Crews push

Since being drafted to Smackdown, Apollo Crews has been on a roll. Last week, he win the battle royale earning him a spot in the six man match for the #1 contender for the WWE championship. This week, he competed in a triple threat along with Kalisto and Baron Corbin. Apollo win the match and will be facing The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.

American Alpha debut

The Smackdown tag team division just got a lot bigger with the debut of the NXT team American Alpha. Jason Jordan and Chad Gable proved why they’re so popular with their agility and moveset. They won a quick match against The Vaudevillains. Even though the match was short, American Alpha showed they’re here to make a name for themselves.

Dolph Ziggler vs Bray Wyatt

After Ziggler’s promo, Bray Wyatt attached Dolph and issued a challenge. The reward was the #1 contender spot for the WWE championship. Ziggler showed he’s not afraid of anything as he accepted Bray’s challenge. All eyes were on the main event to see if Ziggler would keep his spot at SummerSlam or if Wyatt would be the new contender.

The two men put on a heck of a match filled with a lot of near miss pinfalls and even some cheating with an exposed turnbuckle. But at the end, Ziggler scored the win and cemented his spot as the #1 contender for the championship.

But The Wyatts showed, they’re not going away that easily as Bray and Erick Rowan attacked Ziggler and Ambrose after the match.
