Walt Disney World Food Gems

Updated on January 17, 2012

What things do you think about when you hear the words Walt Disney World? Do you think of zooming down Space Mountain, giving a big hug to Mickey Mouse, or maybe just taking a stroll down Main Street USA. But there's one thing that everyone thing love at Disney and they might be the unsung gems of the parks. Of course I'm talking about the food.

You think of walking around and getting a whiff of a smoked turkey leg or fresh popped popcorn. But what are some of the other park favorites that many people enjoy on a daily basis?

Maybe you've heard people online talk about Disney and mention Dole Whips. A Dole Whip is an amazing mix of soft serve ice cream mixed with pineapple juice! I've talked with many people who hate pineapples but simply can't get enough of the Dole Whip. During a recent trip standing in line I met a young woman who said just that. Normally she couldn't stand to even smell pineapple but once she got to the front of the line she ordered a Dole Whip and a Dole Whip Float. A Dole Whip Float you say, what is that? Take this delicious ice cream and surround it by fresh pineapple juice and you have a sweet way to beat the heat!

But who could forget the old stand by at any Disney Park? I'm talking about the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar! Simply a vanilla ice cream bar covered in a chocolate shell but shaped like it's namesake! If you're feeling even more adventureous, I recommend the Mickey Cookies & Cream Ice Cream Sandwich. Two chocolate cookies shaped like the mouse that started it all forming a sandwich filled with cookies and cream ice cream!

And now for somethings you might not thing to find at a Disney Park. Head over Epcot and experience food from around the world at World Showcase. My personal favorite picks? I'm glad you asked! First I really do enjoy the new nachos in the Mexico Pavillion. A relatively new menu item the multicolored chips are piled high with sour cream, guacamole, japelenos, beef, cheese, and refried black beans. My new pick would have to be the Orange Chicken at the China Pavillion. Nothing beats some fresh tasting Chinese after experiencing a vacation full of chicken nuggets and hamburgers. In the mood for something sweet? How about heading over to the Germany Pavillion for a bite of German chocolate. Tons of sweet treats fill the German candy shop, so many in fact that you'll have a hard time picking out just one.

Next up we go to Disney's Hollywood Studios for my personal favorite. Now I'm going off the casual quick service dining and actually going into a sit down resturant. The 50s Prime Time Cafe has one of my favorite things in all of Walt Disney World. The Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake. You read that correctly, a milkshake with the taste of an old fashioned PB&J. It's amazing and should be tried! Go get one. Now, seriously and bring me back one while you're at it!

Well that's all for now, but seriously, I want a milkshake now...Anyone?

Ask a question! All things Disney here!

I haven't been to Disney World in a long time, but I certainly love the food! We have family in California, so we usually go to Disneyland in Anaheim (where Mr. Toad still lives). We live in Western NY, though, so we're thinking of a trip to WDW in a couple of years. We have two small kids, and there is nothing better than an ice cream snack in the middle of the day!
