Want to have fun this summer? Here's how.

Updated on June 10, 2012

If anything is wrong with summer vacation, it's that it's too short.

For only one fourth of the year students are offered freedoms that are not otherwise possible when class is in session. With only 3 months to have to fun in the sun, there isn't much time to waste.

And yet, time wasting happens more than most would care to admit. If you're in high school or a young college student, time wasting is completely and utterly unacceptable. This summer could be your last before dreaded 'real life' begins, so it's time to make the most of it. Want to learn how? Keep reading--but don't stay to long. There's fun to be had!

Get Workin'

The phrase "the best things in life are the free ones" has it's place, but so does money. A steady cash flow increases summer fun dramatically.

Get a summer job and start earning money. Not only will working increase the opportunities for summer fun, but will prepare you for the future in more ways than one. Hearing the word 'work' brings about feelings of despair in most, but keep in mind that working provides for more freedoms than it takes away.

A part time job guarantees summer time well spent.

Remember when...

Keep a journal this summer. Take care to write in it at least once a week. Doing so will be rewarding in many ways!

Documenting your summer works as a great incentive to spend your time wisely. What person wants to read a journal that reads 'I woke up at noon today and so I had a bowl of corn flakes for lunch.'? Spend your summer doing fun and exciting things, and then write about it! You'll thank yourself next summer, and then again 20 years from now. Things you think you will remember forever are often forgotten, but writing those important things will help jog your memory years down the road. Hate hand-writing things? Try setting up a blog!

A journal isn't the only way to document your summer. Bring a camera with you everywhere you go. Yeah, be that guy. It's worth it. After all, a picture paints a thousand words. While cameras seem to be an extra limb for girls, most boys have to be told that the 'big button' is the one that snaps the shot. Have no fear, guys. Use your cell phone! You won't regret it.

It's all in the attitude

Growing up, how many of us heard the above phrase one too many times from our parents? My hand is raised. Ironically, it's now a phrase I preach.

Attitude is everything. If you go in to every situation this summer with the attitude of 'this is going to be fun' then it will be fun. As soon as you open your mind to new people, ideas, and experiences, your life improves immeasurably. So leave your comfort zone this summer. Try new things. Ask out that girl. Meet new people. Do things you don't like but your friends do. Work hard. The moment you realize that every situation is controlled by your attitude, the opportunities for summer fun won't stop rolling in.

Now do something!

Being a firm believer that attitude changes everything, I'd still have a difficult time accepting that, with the right attitude, staring at a blank wall is fun.

It seems that a large part of time wasting comes from the inability to think of something to do. It's a situation that many of us have been in, myself included. Avoid this situation like the plague by reading this list of ideas of things to do this summer:

Share the love

Don't keep this information to yourself! The more people who know the secrets to a successful, fun summer, the more fun and successful your own summer becomes! Share this article or tell them yourself; it doesn't matter, just get the word out there!
