Who Should Face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam?

Updated on July 5, 2018
Source

With Summerslam set to take place on August 19,2018. Many fans are trying to predict which matches will headline the marquee show. SummerSlam is often seen as the biggest WWE event after WrestleMania of course. Therefore, WWE often puts out some really interesting matches on the show each year. This year for the fourth time in a row, the Barclays Center in New York City, New York will host the event once again. The past four years have shown that the fans in the Barclays Center are awesome and always exciting to watch. One of the big matches many fans are speculating on is obviously a potential Brock Lesnar match, where he actually shows up and defends the Universal Championship. (I KNOW THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE RIGHT?). However, I will share my personal opinion on who I believe are the best candidates to fight the Beast at SummerSlam.

Drew McIntyre

Source

The former "Chosen One" now donned as the Celtic Colossus has been on a roll since returning to WWE in April 2017. McIntyre was previously released from WWE and went on to significantly improve himself as a person, character and wrestler. He returned to WWE's developmental brand NXT winning the NXT championship from then champion Bobby Roode holding it for four months after losing it to Andrade "Cien" Almas. After that match he suffered a torn bicep and was out for 5 months. He returned to RAW in April 2018 now at the side of Dolph Ziggler at his side and the two have been dominant since then with Ziggler recently winning the Intercontinental Championship. The two have made it clear they want all of the championship gold. How awesome would it be if Drew went on to fight the Beast at SummerSlam and won the Universal Championship. Drew definitely is someone believable with his 6ft 6in, 260lb frame and agressive in-ring style and a match with each of their ring style would be spectacular.

Roman Reigns

Source

Roman Reigns is the obvious choice on the list as whether we like it or not we have to admit he without a doubt deserves another shot at Lesnar. Reigns suffered a string of losses to Lesnar from SummerSlam 2017 to WrestleMania 34 to the Greatest Royal Rumble Event. However, at the Greatest Royal Rumble event Reigns technically did win the match after his feet hit the floor first when he speared Lesnar through the cage. However, the referee awarded Lesnar the win and Reigns has not gotten a rematch since then. Reigns is obviously not the fan favourite amongst the Internet Wrestling community but you would be blind to admit that he is one of the biggest draws in the company as he has been selling the most merch amongst the current full-time talent. He garners the biggest reaction of them all even though it is fulled with a majority of boos and his segments are some of the most viewed compared to others. Reigns even though he has not been booked as strong as he could be against Lesnar (Yes I Know He Kicked Out of a thousand F5's at WrestleMania 34), could be a believable threat to Lesnar if booked like a psycho killer against the Beast.

Bobby Lashley

Source

Bobby Lashley has been on a roll since returning to WWE as he is undefeated since returning to the company in April 2018. Spending most of his time fighting against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and teaming with Braun Strowman, Lashley now finds himself on his own and is looking for his first shot at championship gold since returning. Lashley a former two time ECW World Champion and United States Champion and also infamously remembered for his involvement in the Main Event at WrestleMania 23 representing United States president Donald Trump (yes you read that correct) against Umaga representing WWE's chairman Vince McMahon in a hair vs hair match in which Bobby won and Stone Cold who was the special referee, Trump and Lashley shaved Vince's head bald. Bobby left the company in 2008 due to backstage politics and spent his time away wrestling in TNA Impact Wrestling and also competing in MMA for Bellator MMA. Bobby's incredible athleticism and background in MMA makes the perfect opponent for Lesnar who is also known for his incredible athleticism and background in MMA. Both stand at 6ft 3in and around the same weight at 275lb. Thus, a match between the two would be an instant classic featuring two legitimate fighters going at each other for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam in what has been a dream match among fans for over a decade.

Braun Strowman

Source

Yet another obvious choice to face Mr. Lesnar at SummerSlam is Mr. Monster In The Bank, The Monster Among Men, BRAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN (Braun) Strowman. Strowman has been continuing to get better and better everytime he has been on WWE programming. The company certainly sees big things in his future as he has been booked in some of the most entertaining segments I have seen in years. Also, in 2018 alone, Strowman has won the RAW tag team championships with a 10 year old, Nicholas, won the 50 Man Greatest Royal Rumble Match and won the Money In The Bank Briefcase. Therefore if any one should face Lesnar baced on momentum Strowman definitely is the perfect choice. Standing at 6ft 8in and weighing 385lb, Strowman has the size advantage over the Beast Incarnate Lesnar. He has destroyed and beaten everyone in his path; everyone but Brock Lesnar. Strowman faced Lesnar before on multiple occasions but came up short on all of them. Now that Strowman is more polished and more dominant than ever I think a match with Lesnar would be a must-see match for the main event of SummerSlam and also Strowman is definitely deserving of conquering the beast's record breaking Universal Championship reign.

Seth Rollins

Source

Now a surpising addition to the list and the smallest of all the men mentioned before in the list is none other than the KingSlayer, Mr. Burn It Down, The Man, Seth Freakin' Rollins. Seth Rollins has been on fire (no pun intended) since the start of 2018. Competing in a gauntlet match lasting over an hour eliminating both John Cena and Roman Reigns from the match, having incredible matches with Finn Balor, along with winning the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 34 and defending it in some of the best matches of the year. Now you may be wondering how can we believe Seth Rollins can legitimately beat Brock. Well, simply looking at Rollins' moveset and his performances with Brock before and bigger opponents show that he is capable of hanging in the ring with a beast like Lesnar. His feud with Lesnar would be the best choice of all in my opinion, as it would simply be a David Vs. Goliath story or even a Eddie Guerrero Vs. Brock Lesnar story which WWE has not failed in doing since then. Lesnar's match against WWE Champion AJ Styles at Survivor Series 2017 showed he can let the smaller guy get in a lot of offense while remaining dominant and putting on an entertaining match. Rollins is one of the hottest babyfaces on RAW and what a way it would be to cement him as RAW's top babyface than going against Brock Lesnar and eventually slaying the beast becoming the BeastSlayer (I know it is corny but hey).

Well that is the end folks. To conclude I hope it is Seth who gets the chance to fight Brock I think he deserves it after doing such incredible things this year and it would definitely cement him as RAW's top babyface if he beats Lesnar for the title. RAW needs a true top babyface and Rollins is perfect for that as fans have gotten behind him and even route for him more than they do for Roman recently. Also, imagine if Rollins wins the title and Dean Ambrose returns as a heel and destroys him and they feud over the Universal Championship that would be awesome for RAW as they need a true hot feud to get out of the brand's slump as of late.
