Why you need an ebike

Updated on November 12, 2017

Buying an electric bike, or ebike, is one of the best things I have done in a long time and I highly recommend one. If you are toying with the idea of buying an ebike and are not sure whether to pull the trigger or not, my advice is to go for it.

I know the purist cyclists out there scoff at the thought of an electric bike, and when I mentioned I was thinking of buying an electric bike to my peers I got a lot (and I mean a lot) of negative comments. Comments like “riding an electric bike is cheating”, “you won’t get fit on an electric bike”, “just buy an electric moped” and the like were forthcoming.

The people making these negative comments simply couldn’t see where I was coming from. I didn’t want a ebike to get super fit, lose weight etc. and neither did I want an electric bike to go out on rides with other cyclists on conventional bikes. I wanted an electric bike to get out in the country side, get some fresh air and enjoy cycling again.

I used to be a very keen cyclist and would regularly go out for thirty to fifty mile cycle rides, however these rides had to stop due to unforeseen circumstances. Unfortunately, I am still not able to get out and cycle such distances (due to a number of reasons) on a conventional bike but with an ebike…………

An ebike gives me the freedom to get out and satisfy my urges to get out in the countryside on two wheels and de-stress. Riding an ebike isn’t cheating, and even though it has got an electric motor I still have to put in some effort to get it moving. When I go out for a ride on the ebike I know that my legs aren’t going to hurt, I know I am not going to get out of breath and I know I won’t be doing a workout. When I go for a ride on the ebike I know that I can go the whole distance and won’t flake half way. Knowing the ride will be stress free before leaving the house instantly makes for a more enjoyable and fulfilling bike ride.

Since buying an electric bike my desire and motivation to get out for a bike ride has increased and I now look forward to it. An electric bike has given me a new lease of life, and I now wouldn’t be without it.
