Who will main event WrestleMania 31?

Updated on October 15, 2014

It is the biggest night of the wrestling calender. Superstars of the WWE work all year to gain the main event spot at WrestleMania. In this hub, we will take a look at some potential main event superstars of the WWE. We will also look at their reasons for potentially being in the main event of WrestleMania 31.

Roman Reigns

It appears that the creative team in WWE are pushing Roman Reigns into the main event spot. Reigns, who has the "it" factor, is the hot favourite to be in the WrestleMania main event (potentially facing Brock Lesnar). Reigns has only been in 2 other WrestleMania events along with his ex-Shield partners Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins.

I think WWE need to be careful with their booking of Roman Reigns. He is currently injured and he may be getting pushed too hard. The fans may turn on him, and he might not become the big money draw that WWE hopes.

Brock Lesnar

Having ended the Undetaker's winning streak at WrestleMania XXX and dominating John Cena at Summerslam 2014, Brock Lesnar would appear guaranteed to be in the Main Event of WrestleMania 31.

Lesnar has had a career reboot since coming back to WWE after becoming the UFC heavyweight champion. With Lesnar's Manager Paul Heyman conducting some of the best mic work in recent memory, it is no surprise that Lesnar has been successful.

I would be shocked if Brock Lesnar was not one half of the Main Event at WrestleMania 31.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Steve Austin accidentally announced that he was getting back into shape for a WWE comeback on his podcast. In past episodes of his show, Paul Heyman also teased Steve Austin that he should be returning to face his client Brock Lesnar.

Steve Austin is no stranger to WrestleMania main events, having had some memorable showdowns with The Rock at the biggest stage of them all. We don't know if Austin has been referring to a WrestleMania comeback match, but it would be foolish not to include him in WrestleMania. We will wait and see!

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 30, but a severe neck injury meant he had to surrender the title and be taken off WWE TV. What must have been a heartbreaking set of circumstances could led Bryan into the main event once again at WrestleMania 31.

Bryan was extremely popular heading into WrestleMania 30. He worked 2 matches that night and became the ultimate underdog. It was unfortunate that Bryan only had 1 pay-per-view title defense before having to undergo neck surgery. Could Bryan regain that same level of popularity upon his return?

John Cena

Although many would disagree, we should never count John Cena out of any Main Event picture. Loved by millions and hated by the same count, John Cena sells tickets.

John has been heavily featured on WrestleManias since WrestleMania 20. Ten years later and he still finds himself in big matches at the yearly spectacle (including wins against Shawn Michaels, Triple H, JBL and The Rock).

It is a matter of opinion if you believe Cena should be in the main event picture yet again, but never count him out.

Dean Ambrose

Arguably the most popular superstar at time of this writing, the "lunatic fringe" Dean Ambrose looks like he is receiving a huge push in Roman Reign's absence.

While many fans right now would say they want to see Ambrose in the Main Event of WrestleMania, WWE will be seriously looking at Ambrose as a future prospect. This can be good or bad, as WWE may not have long term faith in Ambrose. Time will tell, but it sure will be interesting to see how high Ambrose can climb in the WWE food chain.

I can't envision Dean Ambrose taking on Brock Lesnar in the last match at WrestleMania. It just doesn't seem like a great combination. I may be wrong, but I think Dean's style meshes better with smaller guys on the roster. Still, there is potential that Ambrose could main event WrestleMania if the fans stick with him.

The Rock

One thing is for sure, The Rock is a money drawing megastar. It has been rumored that Vince McMahon wants The Rock to take on Brock Lesnar in the WrestleMania main event spot. Is this a match we really want to see?

The Rock headlined WrestleMania 28 and 29 against John Cena. The 2nd showdown was not received well by fans as the outcome was too predictable. The Rock wasn't seen again until WrestleMania 30, where he made a surprise appearance during a segment which featured Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. Recently The Rock showed up on Monday Night Raw to put Rusev in his place.

It does appear that The Rock is familiarizing himself once again with the WWE ring. Will we see him at the show of shows?

Seth Rollins

Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins could very well be the WWE Champion going into WrestleMania. This could guarantee him a main event slot at WrestleMania 31.

Seth Rollins is a fun superstar to watch and he has being doing some excellent work as WWE's main TV heel. We obviously do not know when Seth will cash in his Money in the Bank contract but the chances of him winning the title are very high.

With The Authority by his side, Seth looks set to be a main heel on the roster for a very long time. WWE should take a punt with a young guy like Seth and give him a chance in the big spotlight. His Money in the Bank cash in will tell more of the story (when the time is right).

Sting

It is no secret now that Sting is "involved" with WWE. Sting vs Undertaker has been the match people have been wanting to see now for years. If Sting is working at WrestleMania, it would make sense to put his match on last (especially if the match is against The Undertaker).

Sting has never stepped foot in a WWE ring. He has, however, a lifetime of experience working for WCW and TNA. 2K Sports have featured Sting heavily in the new WWE 2K15 video game, and WWE has recently released a Sting DVD compilation. Could this be indications that WWE wish to use Sting in the ring?

Sting is not a young man. It would be a shame if he never gets to work at WrestleMania. He has been vocal on the subject, stating he would love to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania. The clock is ticking and I believe if both guys want to do it, it needs to be at WrestleMania 31.

Who would you like to see in the WrestleMania 31 main event?
