Updated on January 22, 2018

Yuka Kato's first major success in swimming

"Yuka Kato" or Kato Yuka is currently a Japanese butterfly swimmer. A native of Toyokawa, Japan in the Aichi Prefecture Kato came into this world on October 30, 1986. She was affiliated with the Tokyo Swimming Center. I’m assuming that is where she does all of her training and preparation. Her debut in international swimming events came in the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. She won the bronze medal in the Women’s 50 meter butterfly event.

The following year at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, Kato finished in 23rd in the 100 meter butterfly event. In the women’s 4 X 100 meter medley relay, Kato finished in 6th place in the final.

Yuka Kato's success in the United States and Japan

In 2010 at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California, Kato got a bronze medal in the 4 X 100 meter medley event. Also in 2010, Kato got a silver medal in the 50 meter butterfly event. This event took place in Guangzhou, China at the Aoti Aquatics Center. She also earned a bronze medal in the same 16th Asian Games when she participated in the 100 meter butterfly event.

In her native country of Japan, Yuka Kato finished with a personal best time of 26.07 in the 50 meter butterfly event. This turned out to be a Japanese record. The next day on April 11, 2011, Kato established another Japanese record. She finished with a time of 57:80 in the 100 meter butterfly event. In 2012, Yuka Kato finished with a time of 57:77 during the Japan Swim 2012 event. This finish was in 1st place and Yuka and because of that victory, she qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The event that she took part in was the women’s 100 meter butterfly final. Her accomplishments may not be as well-known in swimming but she has definitely been an athlete that has had her share of success.
