More or less the same way of any other kind of question about the human body and sports.
Running speed is the product of stride length and stride rate. Since stride length is largely determined by the genetic lottery, increasing stride rate is the most efficient way to improve running speed. To do this, focus on landing mid-foot, with the foot underneath you, as opposed to on the heel with the foot out front. This will minimize your ground-contact time, and will enable a faster turnover. This will translate to a greater stride per minute count (higher stride rate) and faster running speed. Running on a slight downhill slope, and allowing gravity to pull you down the hill will force a slightly higher stride rate, and will give you an idea of what running at that pace feels like.
In terms of training your body to run at a faster pace over a longer distance, interval training is a good way to work up to a faster pace. Switch between running at a close to full sprint and jogging. Something like 30 seconds of sprinting and 1 minute of jogging. Repeat for 20 - 30 minutes. Do this once a week along with your other run sessions. Doing this on a track would be ideal.
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is commonly misused while training for speed. Most people are slow because they are out of shape. HIIT gets people into shape quickly, so it naturally improves the average person's speed.
However, elite athletes have programs specifically tailored to increasing their speed, including the use of resistance training to help improve their explosiveness.
The biggest thing you can do to increase your speed? Stretch daily! Flexibility is closely related to speed.

If I was on a space ship traveling at the speed of light (The natural speed limit proposed by Einstein) and I fired a gun would the bullet remain in the gun?My belief is no it would not. I believe the bullet would leave the gun at the same increased velocity that it would achieve if I had fired the...

Is it possible to communicate faster than the speed of light? As I studies electronic communications, I realized that the speed of light (radio and micro waves) is fixed at 300,000 km per second and allows us to converse in real time. In a galactic empire light years apart, conversing is not...
