1970 on a camp-site somewhere in Germany I was unsuccessfully trying to light a little gas stove while my husband was trying to open a tin of soup with a hammer and screw driver (we were not very well prepared) much to the amusement of the occupants of a full equipped palatial tent opposite. They had everything including electricity and a table set for dinner in their awing with fine silver and candelabra
We had a two man tent, (if you shared the same sleeping bag and didn't move) and the contents of the trunk of our car. After watching us struggle for a while someone from the palatial tent came over and gave us a device which we thought was to help my husband open the can that he was butchering with the screw driver and hammer but try as we may we couldn't get it to open the can.
After much laughter in the tent opposite the man came over and took the device off my husband and lit the gas stove for us with it then produced a tin opener and opened the can.
We had spent about five minutes trying to open the can with the gas lighter, what can I tell you we were young and not that use to camping lol...
