   Hmmm Statistically Messi is the better player but i do wonder if he wasnt in Barcelona, i think then Ronaldo would be better, even Torres can score a hatrick when your supplied by Xavi and Iniesta

   Messi is a better TEAM player, Ronaldo is the greedier player, hence Ronaldo scores more but Messi does more for his team...

   It might be hard to believe for folks in the UK, but the popularity of soccer in the U.S. is far behind the major sports - Football (American), Baseball, Basketball and Hockey. 
   
   I did not know the names Ronaldo and Messi and had to look them up on Wiki.
   
   The Boston (New England) soccer team drew over 20,000 fans per game in its first year, back in the 1990s.  Now (2012), less than 13,000 go to the games.
   
   By contrast, the Boston (New England) Patriots football team, play in the same stadium and they sell out every single game -  OVER 68,000. 
   
   The Boston Red Sox baseball team, sells out Fenway park over 80 times a year.  They bring almost 40,000 fans to each and every game. 
   
   I don't know exactly why, but soccer (European Football) has never caught on in North America.
   
     Immigrants who grew up with soccer, become Red Sox and Patriots fans when they settle into the Boston area.
   
   The last big soccer star in America was Pele.  He's probably the only soccer player known to the average citizen  of the U.S.

      I am pretty sure his wife is better known in the U.S. than he is.  She was a member of the Spice Girls.  He plays for a West Coast LA team and they really don't make a buzz in the States.  Golf, soccer, racing etc all get little day to day chatter.

   I think Messi is the more complete player. Ronaldo can surprise with brilliance but he sometimes misses easy goals. If Messi comes within a few yards of the box with some space you almost expect him to score every time. Recently his goals for Argentina were just astonishing.

      Ronaldo didn't lead Portugal to anything. Casillas lead Spain to the Euro Cup, yet he isn't considered the best player in the world. Being captain of a national side doesn't prove anything about being the best player in the world.

    I love Ronaldo, since he was a player for Manchester United. I have followed him throughout his career. I think he is a sensational player. I don't mind Messi, but I hate Barcelona, and how everyone says they are the best team in the world. I think that if Messi wasn't playing for Barcelona, they would be just a mediocre team!
