If they have a pungent aroma they may work. Spiders do not like citrusy smells and since they taste their environment with their feet they will avoid surfaces that have traces of those odors/flavors. As soon as the smell dissipates they will be back. Osage oranges supposedly work better on insects, as some studies with their extracts have shown.
