Which type of baseball game is more fun to watch: a high-scoring game or a pitchers' duel?
High-scoring game if it's one of those that go back and forth like the fourth game of the world series versus Toronto and Philadelphia in 93. But in football...a defensive struggle is the balls. It's great when you have two teams that are 0-0 through the third quarter. When it becomes 7-0, you know the other team is furious because it's a game where 7 feels like 42.
I have always been defensive minded, so I would much rather see two pitchers both battling to try and obtain the evasive no-hitter/shut-out, rather than a high scoring slug-fest where the last team up to bat will more than likely win.
This is a difficult question. I'm a huge lover of baseball and either has its appeal. I think if I'm at a game in person with my family, I like a high scoring game. If I'm watching or listening to it myself, I prefer the tension of a pitchers' game
As much as I hate the DH, I do enjoy a high-scoring game. Nothing too crazy. To me, 5-4 is high scoring. I think a game that is back and forth, where one run is answered with another the next inning is quality baseball. For the long-term financial health of MLB, I think high-scoring games are crucial. Getting the casual fan to tune in and stay in this era of limited attention spans is very hard.
Good point. I think soccer and hockey can thrive with low-scoring games because the action is usually fast and furious with the possibility of a goal at any moment. Baseball needs more scoring (for casual fans) because it's a much slower game.
I say, pitchers' duel. I find the psychological game between batter and pitcher interesting.
High scoring only if it is not lopsided. I like both sides to have a chance to win. A pitching duel is amazing but it takes your full concentration, which is often not possible to maintain if you are watching with friends. Best scenario for me: a balanced game with runs every few innings, then a dynamite closer comes in and slams the door shut - on the opposing team of course.
Lions44: I'm with you on the DH. Pitchers should bat. It keeps them humble. As Steve Avery used to say: Swing hard - You might hit something.
I agree that a balanced game, high or low scoring, is the key to maintaining interest throughout the game. Both types of games can be fun, but as you and johnsonrallen have pointed out, a pitchers' duel is easier to enjoy when you're watching alone.
I like watching close games of any sort. As long as it's not one sided, it can be a high scoring game or a low scoring game, it will still keep my attention.
Yes, I agree. Although an occasional lopsided game in your team's favor can be fun -- especially if, like me, you root for the Mets, since those games are rare!
I definately agree with you there. I LOVED the couple times the Indians have beat the Yankees with some crazy score like 20-2.
I like a pitchers' duel. Even though I know almost nothing about soccer I think the game has the mentality that scoring in a low-scoring contest is very meaningful. Tell me that someone stole home in a 11-7 victory and I might think it's a sign of a sloppy game. If it happens in a 1-0 decision I think how exciting.
No question: pitcher's duel. There is such a psychological battle and so much strategy. It's all of the unsaid, hardly noticed things that go into those wins. A few inches either way or a late jump on a pop-fly can make all of the difference. That's one of the most beautiful things about the game.

I have tried to watch baseball multiple times, but every time I watch it,I just can't get into it. It's too boring for me. I'm sure I'l like it when I'm older, but for those who like it now; what makes it so entertaining to you?
