Coming from Britain (a country where Socialism is a major part of society) both public sector and private sector non-profit organizations is so common place it’s difficult to know where to start.
But one that springs to mind is the BCT (Bristol Community Transport) in my home town of Bristol, England, who are part of the HCT (Hackney Community Transport) founded in 1982, and who employ 800 employees to run a fleet of 500 buses as a not-for-profit organisation in ten cities across Britain e.g. the profits they make are ploughed back into community services.
In Bristol BCT operate two ‘Park and Ride’ bus services and the profits made on those services are used to provide a low-cost, accessible minibus service of 48 minibuses to over 600 not-for-profit organisations in the Bristol area, including a free community door to door minibus service to the elderly and disabled enabling them to get out and about.
It should be pointed out that as everyone in Britain over retirement age are entitled to free bus and train travel, the door to door service is aimed at providing accessibility for those who (because of being elderly and infirm or because of their disabilities) would normally struggle to get out and use a normal bus service.
