Best Sturdy Folding Bicycles

Updated on June 13, 2014

Top Ten Folding Bikes

Folding Bikes are a very useful exercise tool. These handy bicycles can be easily stored or thrown in the back of a car and driven to fun and exotic locations for a "tour", off-roading or Mountain Biking.

I own a Dahon similar to the one pictured here and just love it. I use it for rides through the country side and rides along the dunes on the beach.

These nifty Folding Bikes not just your normal transportation bicycles. They are for a lot more than just getting from point A to point B.

These bikes have the option of folding into a very convenient form factor for easy transport and storage. With the ability to fold these bikes to a fraction of their original size you can save a lot of space for home and garage storage and also carry your bicycle on public transportation with ease.

There are a lot of different options when it comes to the folding bicycles. Most ofthese bikes are designed for sturdy off-road biking and they come in a wide variety of sizes from 15" wheels all the way up to 36" wheels.

There are a lot of popular bikes on this list but on most compilations this bike is highly ranked and very highly rated. Personally this is the bike I will likely buy if the one I have craps out.

Many of the best Folding Bikes are 16" or 20" folders. These bikes are a even more compact and easier for storage, but for a 6' tall adult, they can be a bit awkward to ride. one of the charms of this top folding bicycle is it's size. It is a full 26" folding bicycle.

This bike is also quite durable and strong. When you ride it, you will have no idea that the bike could fold in half if you did not already know.

Here is what I like about this bike that gives it the top rating:

** This 26" folding Bike is simply one the best looking. The Blue color is attractive and it LOOKS like the high quality bike it is.

** It feels sturdy and smooth when you ride it

** Nice large 26" tires

** It only takes about 10+ seconds to fold up the bike. Not a complicated fold by any means!

** Easily fits in the trunk of a standard car. YOu can use this for roadtrips and not need a roof rack

** Noise free gear shifting

** Affordable

** This folding bike also (currently) has a nice 4.5 out of 5 stars on amazon for user satisfaction

#2 Folding Bike - Dahon Speed Uno Folding Bike, Shadow

I like this Bike so much I bought it myself.

Dahon is one of the top names in folding bikes. This is the type of folding Bike that I own, and I use it all the time. I use it riding dunes at the beach, off-roading for exercise and I even take it on trips with me.

I use this bike all the time and simply love it. It is sturdy, tough and folds up nicely for storage and travel.

the only issue is the wheel size could be a bit small for a very large person. For larger people it might be more of a freestyle or BMX option than a "touring" bike. IF you are looking for a BMX or freestyle bike, this may well be the best one out there.

#3 Folding Bicycle - Columba 26" Alloy Folding Bike w. Shimano

This bike is great for those that are a little bit taller. The slightly larger 26 inch wheels make this one a more comfortable ride than some of the smaller versions. It is a sturdy and classy bike.

A slightly larger folding bike than some, this is an option that works equally well for touring, freestyle and BMX racing.

It has a very sturdy construction and rides like a dream. It folds quickly and easily but rides so smoothly that you would be surprised it is a folding bike if you did not know it.

#4 Folding Bike - Dahon Echo C7

Seven Speed ECO bike is the price of climbing. A very nice folding bike that is very well constructed and looks awesome. Like many of the Dahon folding bikes, this works better as a BMX and freestyle bike than a touring bike. But this is what makes it so great. Easy to transport from remote location to remote location to get your fill of off-roading.

#5 Folding Bike - 20" Lightweight Aluminum Folder

A slightly smaller folding bike. Has a very small storage profile and it is great from mountain rides as well as touring and just going for a fun country ride.

This Freestyle/BMX/Off-Roading Folding bike folds in multiple places, making it one of the the most compact bikes when it is fully folded. It also looks great, runs smoothly and has a sturdy and durable construction that makes it one of the most popular folding bikes out there. It is also one of the lightest folding bikes due to the lightweight aluminum frame design.

I have seen folding bikes but wondered if they were fun to ride or not. Never understood why people would need them until I read your lens and thought how I often want to take a bike to the beach but can't put my bike in the car. Now I know. Thanks!
