Best Yoga Mats And Exercise Mats For When You're On The Road

Here you will find some of the best travel yoga mats reviewed. If you are doing yoga regularly, you know the importance of a mat for your exercises. If you are also a regular traveler, be it for business or for holidays, then a travel mat is something that you shouldn't be without, especially if you don't want to interrupt your yoga sessions while away from home.

This is why these mats are a bit different from the regular ones you might be used to.

So what are the main points that you need to check when buying such a yoga mat? When traveling, you need something that is light,thinner than the regualr ones yet durable enough to withstand the constant carrying around. It needs to fold up easily to fit in the suitcase and it should have an easy grip. In addition, even though the mat is thinner, it should absorb the sweat just as the regular mats you are already used to.

When buying such a travel mat, you need to consider all these points to get the best for your money. I have done already the research for you, and here are some of the best mats on the market today, available at quite reasonable prices.

Here is my personal recommendation. The perfect travel yoga mat: the Khataland YoFoMat® Travel Yoga Mat. It has won several awards, it has been displayed and reviewed in various magazines and on TV (featured "as shown on TV"), it is a yoga mat for the real yoga practitioner who is always on the road and needs something professional that keeps their practice going without any interruptions.

It is extra long, measuring 72" (183cm) long, 24" (61cm) wide, 1/6" (4mm) thick. It is also thicker than the regular travel mats, which doesn't deter it from doing what it does best: offering a great support for yoga even when you're not at home.

Can be easily folded up to the size of a large book measuring 12"x10"x3", which makes it tiny indeed. Made of high density material, it offers great stabily and grip. Eco-friendly, free of any allergens in the materials, it is also free of any smells of rubber or whatnot. High quality, great texture, a great travel yoga mat!

Are Travel Yoga Mats Better Than Regular Mats?

Well, yes and no. If you're not traveling much - or maybe not at all while you're doing yoga, then a regular yoga mat is more than enough for you.

However if you are a traveling business person, or you want to do yoga while abroad on holiday as well, then a travel yoga mat is pretty much a must if you value your convenience and a small baggage style.

A travel yoga mat is a much smaller sized one than a regular one once you roll it up. The mat is much thinner (usually 1/16 inch) and it weights less. They offer that much needed flexibility that you need when you're away from home.

Not to mention the fact that they're really stylish, as you can see in the examples on this page. Manufacturers definitely know how to make them appealing to the yoga practitioners - whether they are pro or simply seasonal yoga lovers.

The Gaiam Sol Bhakti Ultra-light Yoga Mat is high on my travel yoga mats list. It has all the main requirements that make such a mat desirable when on the road, and much more.

It is extremely light (even the name says it so "ultra-light") weighting less than 2 pounds, it is very thin (only 2mm thick) and it easily folds to be packed in any luggage of your choice. The yoga mat has a 100% natural rubber surface, which sticks to the floor keeping it in place when practicing. Indeed, the fact that it is non-slip is another benefit that a travel mat should have.

Very easy to clean by using a damp cloth over it with some detergent and cold water. Simply avoid keeping it out in the sun to dry so that it doesn't become brittle (like any rubber material from exposure to the sun). Overall many people say it's more durable than regular yoga mats, which is an additional plus. Highly recommended.

It comes in 6 lovely colors with interesting names, which include: Midnight (dark blue), Thunder (gray), Acai (purple), Quest (turquoise), Rally (orange) and Sway (green).

The Manduka eKO SuperLite Travel Yoga Mat is another great mat for when on the road and need to practice yoga without interrupting the exercises.

It is a very light design weighting only around 2 pounds, made from real rubber that is biodegradable, meaning that it won't fade or flake off. This makes it not only eco-friendly but also perfect by being non-slip when practicing.

It is only 1/16 inch thick and it folds up easily when not in use. Offers a great grip and absorbs sweat without any problems. Another highly recommended mat for when traveling on business or holidays.

Yoga Poses & Equipment : Manduka Yoga Mats

Jade Travel Yoga Mat

The Jade travel yoga mat is up there with Manduka and Gaiam in quality of the product delivered. It is 1/8 of an inch thick, which puts it a bit on the thicker side, yet thin enough to be considered a travel mat. Made of natural rubber, it offers a non-slip surface with a great grip. The rubber also gives a natural cushion that makes it comfortable for your exercises.

Very easy to wash with some cold water and soap or detergent. All in all a great sticky mat made of high quality material that is quite easy to carry around on your travels or perfect to use at home or in the gym.

Don't forget:

A good yoga mat for travel needs to:

* be thin

* have a good grip

* be easily foldable

* be made of high quality material

* be eco-friendly if possible

* be non-slip

* be light - ultralight if possible
