Detroit Tigers Baseball "Bless You Boys"

Baseball is my favorite sport and the Detroit Tigers are the team I root for. Let's go Tigers.

I love baseball at all levels. I grew up listening to Ernie Harwell and have fond memories late at night with the radio on and falling asleep to the sound of his voice. Growing up my favorite player was Sweet Lou Whitaker with Alan Trammell a close second. When playing I would imagine that I was doing a double play combo with Alan to Lou. I used to collect baseball cards and I always had to have all the Tigers. I started to follow the Tigers in the early 1980s and when they won the World Series in 1984 when I was almost 8, I was hooked. Almost 30 years later since my introduction to baseball I am still a huge fan. I follow players closely and crunch stats all the time. My favorite players change as the lineups do but currently Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera are my Tigers. I wish to express the loss that hit me immensely when Sparky Anderson and Ernie Harwell passed on. It hit all of us Tiger fans very hard.

Visit Comerica Park or their minor league affiliates.

I used to love Tigers Stadium and have fond memories of it. Since they built Comerica Park I appreciate the beauty of the park and though I love the new park in my mind Tigers stadium holds my childhood memories and you can't compete with sentimentality. It is not really a hitter or pitcher friendly park now since it's been reduced.. For the start of the 2003 season they made it smaller due to complaint's of being non homerun friendly and at that time was the 1st or 2nd largest stadium in Major League Baseball. Tickets there are reasonable in comparison to other cities. I go to a few games at COPA a year (abbreviated form as fans call it) which is all I can afford since I am on a budget. When I lived near Detroit I would go to several Toledo Mud Hens game a year. This is Triple A ball and the stepping stone to the majors. You would often see players who are now playing for Detroit at the MLB level or Tiger's that were sent down due to injury or to adjust their skills in case they were struggling. Since I now live a few hours away from Detroit I will still try to attend with my family a couple of games a year at COPA but now will get to check out the West Michigan Whitecaps which will have a lot of very young prospects and is A ball. Very affordable tickets and look forward to seeing players develop into MLB players and be able to chart their growth from the beginning. So if you are a big Detroit Tigers fan I hope you keep the faith in our team and I recommend going to a few minor league games affiliated with Detroit. It will be a blast and save you a lot of money as well.

Where to sit at Comerica Park

Prices range from close to 10 dollars to 100 depending on the section. My tip is to get the best section you can afford. During the day if you sit on the left field side the sun can be in your eyes and some sections have little to no shade from the sun beating down on you. For a day game I like to sit in infield box sections 118-137 in the first 15 rows or the terraces where you can get a little shade. Sometimes you can get these locations and tickets on Stubhub or similar sites for less than 35 dollars. If on the left field side I try to sit in outfield box sections 138-139 with a low row number. A great spot to get balls and can buy on sites for less than 35 dollars at times. Section 117 outfield box section is good as well on the right field side and can get a good view of 1st base and no sun in the eyes and these tickets are usually able to be found for around 30-35 dollars. For cheap tickets the mezzanine sections and upper box infield are pretty decent views for around 15 dollars and sometimes cheaper online. The mlb website charges more than you can usually find on alternative sites like vividseats and stubhub.

July 10th 2013 I am taking my family and friends to Detroit versus the White Sox. We are sitting in section 139 and row 8. Decent seats but got them for a great price, under 30 dollars on Vivid Seats, well with the fees about 32 a ticket.

2014 Season Preview and Thoughts

For my archived reports of the Detroit Tigers ranging from 2011 until 2013 they can be found on this hub Detroit Tigers Archives

11-29 2013: Well me didn't make it to the World Series but the TIgers have been making some changes. Leyland retired and we now have Brad Ausmus as manager. Prince Fielder was traded to the Rangers and we received Ian Kinsler in return. We cut some salary with this move and filled a void in our infield since we did not resign Infante or Peralta. It is expected that Cabrera will move back to 1st base and Nick Castellanos will be our 3rd baseman. Max is a free agent after this season and he won't be cheap if he can come close to last years numbers. We need an outfielder and a left handed bat so hopefully that can be addressed with an acquisition soon. The bullpen needs some beefing up and Benoit and Jose Veras were not resigned. Phil Coke accepted arbitration offer, drats. The Tigers are pursuing a couple of closers like Brian Wilson so we will have to wait and see what develops.

7-2014: A lot of changes have been made to the lineup. Austin Jackson and Doug Fister were traded away. We picked up David Price and Joe Nathan as a closer. JD Martinez has been hot at the plate all year which is surprising for a 27 or 28 year old career minor leaguer. We are in a neck to neck race with Kansas City for the Central.

9-2014: Still a tight race with KC for the central division about 18 games left at the time of this udate. JD Martinez has been continuing his dominance at the plate and Victor Martinez is having a career year as well. Rick Porcello seems to have put things together which is the biggest surprise of all in my eye. Justin Verlander, David Price, Joe Nathan and Miguel Cabrera haven't had the greatest years in comparison to what they have done in the past but Cabrera and Verlander have both came off core surgery in the off season so expect them to bounce back better next year.

10-2014: We won the AL central but didn't advance out of the first round. Been a disappointing year since we have so much talent but nothing seems to go right. Our bullpen needs a lot of help. Always next year but don't we always say that.

2015 Season Preview and thoughts

Your boy Cabrera is a NUT the last two years. But honestly I really thought we'd get a lot more out of Prince (I'm a Tigers and Jay's fan).

I unfortunately never got to see Tiger Stadium except from the outside, so I can't compare, but I absolutely love Comerica Park...I think it's one of the best in baseball. I think it doesn't get the accolades it deserves partly because it replaced a classic like Tiger Stadium, which I understand, but Comerica is a fantastic ballpark.

I've been a fan since Jack Morris was their ace pitcher. I loved Curtis Granderson and still following him with the Yankees. Nicely done!

Red Sox fan here. Victor Martinez is a class act and sorry to hear he's going to be out most the year. Maybe we'll meet up in the postseason with my team being on top of course.

In 1889 there was another baseball first. William Hoy from Washington threw out three runners at the plate, in a single game. And hence got himself into the record books .

Great to meet a Detroit Tigers' fan. I'm a huge Baseball fan overall, so enjoy the Tigers as much as any team. If I had to pick & choose an all-time favorite, it would be hard, but I do follow the Cardinals regularly :). Good luck to your Tigers this 2011 MLB Season.
