76ers’ Doug Collins an Example of Where Passion can take You

Updated on May 25, 2012

Doug Collins can coach. He’s already proved that. His broadcasting as an analyst revealed his basketball expertise. Even his playing career was productive; he made the all-star team on four occasions. He was the number one overall pick in the 1973 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers after a successful collegiate campaign at Illinois State University. The school’s basketball court is named after him and even has a statue of him outside the arena. A class act and devoted family man who has had his grandsons recently appear with him at the podium after games. Add it all up and you have the makings of a man, who possesses commitment, loyalty, intensity, fire and passion. His quality leadership abilities have taken a 76er squad without a superstar further than anyone would have expected. He has spiritually taken this team and its city for a ride and has claimed he’s “a sixer for life.” The task at hand becomes a little easier if you’re lucky enough to have love for what you do. This season is already a success and as of right now, Doug Collins’ coaching in the 2012 playoffs has shown how far you can travel when your heart is in the right place.
