Emotion Spitfire Kayak Scupper Plugs

The Emotion Spitfire Sit On Top kayak features a self bailing design that utilized scupper holes in the boat to allow any water that comes in over the sides of the boat to be automatically drained. These scupper holes are very useful in conditions where water may enter the boat in the this manner. However, in calmer conditions, these scupper holes may allow water to come up through holes and get the paddler wet when he/she may otherwise stay dry. Scupper plugs stop water from coming through the scupper holes in calm water.

Beginner's Guide to Kayaking

Sit-on-Top Kayaking : A Beginner's Guide
Sit-on-Top Kayaking : A Beginner's Guide

This is the place to start for people who are brand spanking, fresh out of the box, still got the wrapper on new to the sport of kayaking. It is a short, quick, easy read with photos, general tips, and information on how to get started on your new kayak. Seriously, this is the book for people who are looking for answers to the most basic beginning kayak questions. This is the basic guide to getting out and kayaking with chapter titles and sections such as: "How to Buy a Kayak," "Getting Started on the Water," and "Route Planning." This is not the end all source of information, it is the start to finding the joy of getting on your kayak.

Spitfire is A Great Beginning Kayak

The Emotion Spitfire Sit-On-Top Kayak was designed specifically for those who are looking to get their start into the sport of Kayaking. It's length, width, and weight lend themselves to the overall mobility of the Spitfire both on and off the water. At 8 feet only 38 pounds, the Spitfire is simple to transport.

That's a big part of learning the sport. Unless we're lucky enough to live right on a local waterway, we have to get our new kayaks to the water. The Spitfire makes that easy.

But the Spitfire isn't just designed for easy transport to the water, it's designed to make paddling on the water easy. It's a pretty wide kayak at 2.5 feet wide which gives a paddler fantastic stability. Stability is crucial for us in believing in our ability to get out and go. When we're new to the sport, that's really all we want to do. We want to get on the boat and start exploring. With the Spitfire, that's exactly what we get.

However, Emotion Kayaks knew something when the introduced the Spitfire. We are going to get better. New Spitfire owners are going to be able to get out and get going so easily that they are simply going to fall in love with the ride. Naturally, paddlers are going to get better, and Emotion understood that the Spitfire had to have some design elements that allowed for our progression. The shallow V shaped hull allows for the speed and navigation that we are going to want as we start to progress.

@Linda BookLady: Hmm, for that purpose, I would think a slightly longer kayak would be better. More room in the rear tankwell for your dog. The Renegade XT is 10' long and 36" wide. The specs on that kayak indicate that is perfect for a dog to ride along. I like 10 foot kayaks, because the are more stable and handle better on the water and they tend to have a few more accessories/options, but they are still relatively easy to transport to/from the local waterway.

I like this kayak... looks easy to use. I'm looking for a kayak I could take my dog along on as I explore lakes.
