Float Your Boat at Milford Lake!

Updated on August 15, 2014

Cardboard Boat Races at Milford Lake Kansas

Every Summer since August 2008, Kansas' Milford Lake has been the site of a friendly and exciting watersport competition! Teams of two or more people compete in the "Float Your Boat" Cardboard Boat Races which are typically held at the South Boat Ramp Area at Milford State Park. The goal is to paddle across the water without sinking and to do so in the fastest time. This activity is part of the annual Milford Lake Extreme Outdoor Water Festival which has included a Youth Triathlon, canoe/kayak experience, and free boat rides in previous years. Food vendors and inflatables are usually on site as well.

2014 Extreme Outdoor Water Festival

If you enjoy spending time at the lake, come out to The Gathering Pond below the dam at Milford Lake for some fun on Saturday August 16, 2014. The 2014 Extreme Outdoor Water Festival runs from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and the Float Your Boat Cardboard Boat Races is one activity taking place at the event. In past years, the cardboard boat races have taken place at the South Boat Ramp Area of Milford State Park. Due to the presence of blue-green algae in some parts of Milford Lake, the event for 2014 has been moved to the Swim Beach Area of The Gathering Pond below Milford Dam.
