Best Folding Treadmills

Updated on August 19, 2014

Folding Treadmills Are Perfect For Small Spaces

The most popular Folding Treadmills are the ones that allow you to get a great workout - just as good as a non-folding stationary one.

These space saving treadmills have the same great features and stability that you look for in a treadmill but they can fold up and out of the way when not in use.

This makes them perfect for small apartments and smaller rooms.

At one time they were a bit difficult to fold up and often the deck dropped like a rock when you opened them causing safety issues.

However, you will find that much has changed and that most models today fold up with a simple push of a button and

when these unfold, the deck will gradually and slowly - safely lower to the ground.

You'll still see some older used ones (like many found at yard sales) drop quickly, but all of the ones on this page will fold and unfold safely.

You will also find that older models would often shake and rattle when you brought the speed up to a good run since they were not really meant for the power user.

However, over the last few years the structural designs have changed and now it's often hard to tell the difference between a folding treadmill and a non-folding one except for when it's time to move it out of the way.

They are more powerful and sturdier and have given stationary one's major competition.

On this page you'll find several different brands and styles and I'm sure that you'll find exactly what you're looking for.

Sole F80

Rated & Reviewed as a Best Buy & My Personal Top Pick

The Sole F80, has always been one of the top selling and popular treadmills in the marketplace and now with the release of this updated model, Sole has turned up the heat on its competitors.

The earlier versions of the F80 have been reviewed as "The best treadmill in its price range" by both consumers and numerous consumer authorities and it was easy to see why and this version continues the tradition.

Putting everything else aside and only taking a look at the warranty on this Sole treadmill you will begin to see why many prefer to own a treadmill by Sole. Only a company who has complete confidence in their products would offer such a generous warranty.

Limited Warranty: On the Motor, Frame and Deck there is a Lifetime warranty

For the Electronics, Belt and Rollers the warranty is for a full 5 years.

You also have 2 years of Labor which is In-Home service.

Let's take a look at a few of the stats of the F80

Its Motor: The motor is a 3.5 HP CHP,(continuous horse power) DC type. A continuous duty motor performs well while hitting the faster speeds and higher inclines for a longer time compared to a standard motor. That's one reason why Sole can offer a lifetime warranty on its motor - it's that good.

This allows your workout to be smoother and have less hesitation going from different inclines and you'll find that while you are changing speeds there is no jeckiness or wobbling.

Speed: 0.5 to 12 mph. Although there are those that can go faster, the average user will find the 12 MPH is more than fast enough.

However if you are a runner that goes for speed and have been running for a while, you may find the 12 MPH nay hold you back a bit. If you are not sure how fast 12 MPH is, try driving your car at that speed (on a side road) and you will notice how fast is actually is. It's about 5 minutes per mile as is a fairly good speed. I know that I prefer a slower speed and for me 8 MPH is about my top end and again 8 MPH is still a fairly good clip and you do work up a sweat.

Incline: 15% the maximum incline, with rack and pinion gear design for powerful, yet gentle raising and lowering of the deck incline.

When your treadmill raises and lowers you won't feel it bounce up and down, but will gradually ascend or descend.

Many users find that the setting around 5% is where they really start to feel the incline. I know that 5% does not seem to be much of anything but when you turn up the speed a bit and then add your 5% you'll quickly understand.

Deck Size and Running Surface: The deck size is 35 X 80 and your running surface is 22 X 60. The deck does have cushioning which makes it easier on your joints compared to running on a non cushioned surface like the street or even at a track.

Both the deck and running surface is larger on this version than previous ones and if you compare it to others you'll find that this running surface is about the same as much more expensive machines and it give you more room to stretch out and have more natural movement in your running.

As expected, this folding treadmill does have an "easy assist" system for opening and closing so you will find it a snap instead of having to fight to get it open or to lift it up to close.

Heart Rate Control: The F80 is both wireless chest strap compatible and also has hand pulse grips so you can use which ever you find most convenient for you. Using a wireless chest strap will give you a bit more accurate reading but I prefer just to use hand grips.

And on the arm rest you will also find the convenient speed and incline buttons.

Although I would like it if this treadmill had more workout programs for the experienced user, the programs that it does have covers all of the major fitness and weight loss goals, so whether you are looking to just lose weight, work on your cardio, enhance your lung capacity, strenghten your muscles or reduce stress you'll find enough programs to satisfy and experiment with.

You just can't go wrong with this treadmill

What I personally like about this particular model is that although it has the kind of features that get you where you want to go and has the same quality as the most expensive model in the Sole lineup ( and Sole is known for quality), it's truly affordable.

Sure I can see the most expensive model getting all the hoopla, but this one is about mid-range and is less expensive than comparable models from other name brands.

Have You Taken Time Out For Yourself Today?

If Not

Why Not?

Before starting any new exercise, fitness or diet program you should get the OK from your doctor

We all have heard that it is extremely important to get a full checkup by our doctor before we begin a new workout program.

However, sadly many of us don't and that is a very big mistake.

It is possible that you have a medical condition that might prohibit you from taking part in certain activities, while on the other hand your doctor may even want to suggest certain activities.

Before starting a new fitness plan do you ( or will you) check with your doctor or health care practitioner?

I would rather walk outside. We don't have space inside for any exercise equipment for a start, barely enough space for our Wii Fit, but walking in the open gives you a nice change of scenery and some fresh air. It's just difficult in the winter, and also like now when it's pouring down outside.

A treadmill inside my home is the better option for me because...

treadmill is a great training tool. Not only can it be more convenient sometimes, but it also helps you practice pacing and greatly improves your mental toughness.

The air quality outside is not so good due to the traffic in our area. We walk during lunch hour at work, but at home we go to the indoor gym

I prefer to use my treadmill because I barely have time to go outside and run with my schedule so at the very least, before I go to bed I try to exercise for about 20 minutes.
