1) BAL win + PIT loss or tie OR
2) BAL win + CIN loss or tie OR
3) BAL tie + PIT loss + CIN loss
Indianapolis9(8-4)) kept one game up on both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati in the wild-card race.
Pittsburghs 9(7-5)) most important game from here out is the Week 16 showdown with Cincinnati. But will that be for the AFCs final wild-card spot or the division crown?
CinnicinatiThey cant fail to Dallas or Philadelphia as this would put Cincinnati even further behind the 8-ball. The Bengals still control their playoff destiny, but Dallas could change that.
Still alive: Jets (5-7), Bills (5-7), Dolphins (5-7), Browns (4-8), Chargers (4-8), Titans (4-8)
Eliminated: Raiders (3-9), Jaguars (2-10), Chiefs (2-10)
Atlanta Falcons(NFC South)
Atlanta Falcons can clinch a first-round bye with:
1) ATL win + CHI loss or tie + GB loss or tie OR
2) ATL win + SF loss OR
3) ATL tie + CHI loss + GB loss
Atlanta clinches home-field advantage thru NFC playoffs with:
1) ATL win + CHI loss or tie + GB loss or tie + SF loss
San Francisco 49ners (8-3-1) can clinch a playoff spot with:
1) SF win + DAL loss + MIN loss + TB loss + WAS loss + STL loss or tie OR
2) SF win + DAL loss + MIN loss + TB loss + WAS loss + SEA loss or tie
Green Bay (8-4) moved back atop the NFC North, thanks to Chicagos home loss to Seattle. That division race likely hinges on next weeks Packers-Bears clash in Chicago. But the Packers still have work to do just to clinch a playoff spot. A first-round bye also is within reach. Remaining games: vs. Lions (4-8), at Bears (8-4), vs. Titans (4-8), at Vikings (6-6)
Giants(7-5) New Yorks Monday night setback in Washington trimmed the division lead to one game and the Giants have a brutal next three weeks. They will probably need at least a 2-1 mark there to hold their ground as the NFC East leader. If the past is any telling of the future, the Giants will pull it out. Remaining games: vs. Saints (5-7), at Falcons (11-1), at Ravens (9-3), vs. Eagles (3-9).
Chicago(8-4)da Bears are behind the Giants in the playoff pecking order, but they are closer to wrapping up a postseason bid. A 2-2 close ought to get it done (and 1-3 might suffice too). The next two weeks will determine just how high Chicago can aim. Remaining games: at Vikings (6-6), vs. Packers (8-4), at Cardinals (4-8), at Lions (4-8)
Seattle (7-5)The Seahawks win over the Bears put a big dent in the NFC Easts hope of claiming two playoff spots. Seattle also finishes with three games at home, where its been pretty smooth sailing. Can the 12th Man help Seattle steal an NFC West title? If nothing else, the comforts of home give the Seahawks a major edge in trying to nail down a wild-card berth. Remaining games: vs. Cardinals (4-8), at Bills (5-7), vs. 49ers (8-3-1), vs. Rams (5-6-1)
Washington (6-6) Redskins win over New York was for the franchise and its fans, there is a whole lotta work left to be done. The last four weeks set up nicely, provided Washington can turn around and knock off Baltimore on Sunday. Neither the Redskins nor the Cowboys have a game left against New York, but their Week 17 clash could be for all the NFC East marbles. Remaining games: vs. Ravens (9-3), at Browns (4-8), at Eagles (3-9), vs. Cowboys (6-6)
Cowboys(6-6) For the time being, consider Dallas third of the three NFC East hopefuls as both are in the standings and reality. The Cowboys already lost once to Washington, so that Week 17 rematch will be daunting, and Dallas will have a hard time finding even a win or two before that. Remaining games: at Bengals (7-5), vs. Steelers (7-5), vs. Saints (5-7), at Redskins (5-6)
Tampa Bay(6-6)Can the Buccaneers win in New Orleans and/or Atlanta? If not, they can forget about representing the NFC South in the playoffs. Tampa Bay lost to the Cowboys, Giants and Redskins earlier this season, so they are in rough tiebreaker shape. emaining games: vs. Eagles (3-9), at Saints (5-7), vs. Rams (5-6-1), at Falcons (11-1)
Minnesota (6-6) Sunday is a must-win for the Vikings. Lose to the Bears for a second time in three weeks, and Minnesota would need to finish 3-0 and get a ton of help to reach the playoffs. Considering the Vikings close with Houston and Green Bay (plus a road game against an improved St. Louis team), on a wing and a prayer. Remaining games: vs. Bears (8-4), at Rams (5-6-1), at Texans (11-1), vs. Packers (8-4)
Still alive: Rams (5-6-1), Saints (5-7), Lions (4-8), Cardinals (4-8), Panthers (3-9), Eagles (3-9)
No doubt it will come down to the last week of the regular season for a few playoff spots, as usual.
Let me dwell upon my favorite division the AFC North. Baltimore would appear to have a comfortable two game lead, but I'm not so sure. In the last three games, they split with Pittsburgh playing backup quarterbacks and beat San Diego in overtime. That was after the Ravens converted on a 4th down and 39 yards to go and they would have lost the game had they not made it.
The Ravens play the Redskins on the road this week, then the Broncos at home, the Giants at home, and at the Bengals. There doesn't appear to be any easy pickings there.
Now, if the Steelers win their remaining four games, home this week against the Chargers, at the Cowboys, home vs. Bengals, home vs. Browns they make the playoffs, at least as a wild card. Any chance of winning the division of course depends on what the Ravens do. The Ravens would win the division if they have the same record as the Steelers.
Now, as for this week's games:
1. If the Steelers lose to the Chargers they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
2. All three NFC teams in contention will win. Redskins over the Ravens, Giants over the Saints, and Cowboys over the Bengals.
3. Patriots will beat the Texans. Yeah, I'm rooting for Tom Brady. I figure if the Texans lose they will be more eager to win the two games they have remaining with the Colts.
1-I hear Big Ben will be back! Lord have mercy are the Chargers really a team? I dont know much of their history together so the only feel I have for this game is that it is a definite given in the Steelers column for a win.
2-Not so sure about the Skins over the Ravens. Big game for the Skins and the Ravens are pretty pissed at the loss to your Steelers. I say they come out with vengeance. Ray Ray isnt set to play but I am sure they will feel him on the sidelines.
3- I cant even begin to address this one. You taking Brady is kind of like you siding with the turkey you named for Thanksgiving.
Okay, okay, you talked me out of rooting for the Patriots already. I probably would have changed my mind once I tuned in on Monday night anyway. The only thing I like better than the Patriots losing is the Steelers winning. Those two Giants wins over the Patriots in the Super Bowls are my favorite games that didn't involve the Steelers.Yeah, the Colts will likely make the playoffs anyway, not that I mind that, unless it keeps the Steelers out.
Talking about the Ravens, Flacco is starting to remind me of Philip Rivers. Seriously. The Ravens defense isn't what it once was, not too long ago. I think they are in trouble. And your Giants dang well better beat them too, after RGIII turns them every which way but loose and Peyton does his thing to them.
So tonight on Thursday Night Football we have Denver at Oakland. The Broncos are a 10 point favorite on the road. As wavegirl pointed out, the Broncos have clinched the AFC West Division.
What the Broncos have at stake now is the number two playoff seed, which would mean a bye in the first round of the playoffs and home field advantage except if they meet the Houston Texans in the AFC Championship. The chances that the Broncos can overtake the Texans for the number one seed are slim. Denver has 2 more losses and got beat by Houston so the tiebreaker is in the favor of the Texans.
The Patriots have 3 losses right now, the same as the Broncos, but they are the number two seed at the moment since they beat Denver. New England has games left against the Texans this Monday night and then the 49ers, both at home. The Broncos are at the Ravens next week. Those are the toughest games left for these two teams.
Tonight's game will probably be a blow out. So we'll no doubt see a lot of those mentally challenged but all dolled up Raider fanatics in the Black Hole.
I just hope Peyton has a bad hair day. My fantasy football opponent at Yahoo has him, and I really need to win this game to make the playoffs.
Nice summary and update Wavegirl :-)
I don't know if I will love the Ugg boots this Monday though! :-)
I really really would like to see wavegirl's Giants and our Steelers in the Super Bowl this season, prettydarkhorse. Big Ben and Eli the Elite would have the chance to tie Tommy Boy Brady for most dances with Tiffany of QBs in this era.
Both teams have a tough road to hoe to get there, but it won't surprise me much if they both get on a roll. Barring major injuries, I think they are the best two teams.
no Ugg boots ever!
and thank you for liking my summary. . .sometimes I need to do things like this to keep myself out of trouble xoxoxo
If I was one of Tommy Boy's teammates, I'd be a lot more concerned about what he wears under his uniform rather than on his feet.
I'd post a pic of him in his favorite little lacy things he borrows from his Victoria Secret super model wife Giselle, but I might get banned.
Stay out of Maxi - mum trouble, my friend. Ok, I will not wear those Ugg anymore!
Are we talking about the same maxi?Tthat's wavegirl's boy toy's name.
Okay, I'm working on my analysis of the NFC East with respect to Week 14 games and the playoff picture.
Report to follow soon. This is one tough nut to crack.
And what a toy he is. Best part of this sort of toy is of course winding it up!
What will happen with the NFC East this week and how will it affect the playoff picture?
Giants -- and the Saints go marching home with a loss. Drew Brews is 4-0 and has never been intercepted against Big Blue. That changes this Sunday. Giants romp at home, beginning another strong late season run to the division title.
Redskins -- have Ravens for lunch. Redskins are number one in the league in rushing, what with RGIII and Alfred Morris. In their last three games, the Ravens have split with the Steelers playing backup QBs and beat the Chargers in OT. Redskins in a close one at home.
Cowboys -- win a close one in Cincinnati. The Bengals have been on a roll in the last 4 games, but the last 3 were against the Chiefs, Raiders, and Chargers. Time for a reality check for the Bengals.
Eagles -- who cares?
So after this Sunday, I think the playoff picture for the NFC East will be that the Giants will still hold a slight lead. They better, because then they go to the Falcons and then the Ravens. Whichever team wins the division is the only team from this division likely to make the playoffs.
anyone know where the real Falcons are today? I think they are hanging out with the real Steelers.
Oh me oh my I finally got to dance today.. .how I love the salsa!
Giants bringing me pure football joy. . oh and did I mention the jets won. . but they beat the jags so not much there to brag about.
Now if only the Jets would listen to me and grab Braylon up . they might start looking like a team that could play in the post season!
But right now its all about BIG BLUE
And dang.. .them Steelers let the Charger Chant be played. . booooo.
Yeah, the Steelers sure sucked today. At least the Bengals and Ravens lost too for some consolation. That was the first game this season the Steelers were never in it. In every other game they had a lead at some point in the fourth quarter. And against the Chargers and at home.
So the Steelers need to win 2 of the last 3, with one of those two being against the Bengals, to make the playoffs.
I have to admit the Giants and David Wilson were impressive today, but they don't have an easy road to the playoffs.
Their road may not be easy but these Giants are a team. You never know which one of their players is going to shine week in and week out. This is their time when they really come together. As they say we are ALLin.
Big Blue now goes into the final three games clinging to a one-game lead in the division but looking a lot more explosive and potent. The Giants just have to show they can be consistent and quit the roller-coaster weekly act.
Next up Atlanta and Eli Elite goes against Matt Ryan and the Falcons, who lost on Sunday for only the second time this season.
The Falcons looked liked the Steelers did today. Got down big and could never catch up. They should be highly motivated to beat the Giants one would think due to the total thrashing they got in the playoffs last season.
I bet you're rooting for the Lions tonight. Oh yeah, strip sack and fumble recovery for the Lions deep in their own territory.
So now tonight we have the Texans at the Patriots.
I hope J.J. Watt does the swat.
I'm still throwing up over that Steelers game yesterday.
And the Giants dwarfed the NO (Drew Brees continues to have those interceptions, why??? defense of the other team or he is not inspired to play anymore, out for the playoff scenario)
Salsa one and flip over, D. Wilson did it. I think that the Giants is still the team to beat on the other side of the fence :-)
Congrats my friend wavegirl! Jets is catching up :-) I know you can't wait for the Chargers and Jets to meet!
With regards to Steelers and Falcons, there are better days, but the Steelers need to win, they can't afford to relax unlike the Falcons!
Three birds can't fly that high (Ravens, Falcons and worst Cardinals), only the Eagles soars and this Thursday, they will continue to fly higher against the Bengals!
Discount Double Check is still playing well, when he plays, well they are winning.
I have a different feeling about the game tonight, Pats can win it (not that I want that to happen), if the Steelers get the sixth seed, they either go to Foxborough or Denver (again). AA (Andre and Arian plus Wattage versus Bill and the Pretty Boy Ugg).
The Ravens got a new OC so, they might end up 4th seed trying to reorganize their offense. Giants and Broncos will beat them :-)
Talking about the Chargers at the Jets on December 23, which is the Sunday Night Football game at the moments, it’s likely that game will be switched with the Bengals at Steelers. Wavegirl said that a week or two ago and I just heard it today on ESPN.
Steelers would have to lose two of the last three for the Jets to have a chance.
I don’t see the Ravens doing much more than holding on to the number four seed. They have the Broncos next week at home and then the Giants after that, also at home. I don’t see them winning either of those games if the Broncos and Giants are on their game. Then they are at the Bengals. That last game might not mean anything to either team.
Go Texans tonight!
yep the game has been flexed out of SNF lineup.
Hard to say this but with the Jets operation as it is all I can say is GO STEELERS.
Pretty tough road for me this season but thats it .. few things behind the scenes that go on that just make me say, thank goodness my Dad brought me up as a Giants fan.
I have a weird hunch that the super bowl this year is going to be the Manning bowl. Peyton vs. Eli. Broncos vs Giants. I don't know why, but if the Giants make the playoffs, everyone in the NFC will be at a distinct disadvantage against the Giants pass rush since most of the playoff teams are a predominantly pass offense.
In the AFC, it's likely going to come down to the Texans, Broncos, or Patriots making the Super Bowl. I don't want NE because they've been there so much in the last ten years. Peyton vs Eli would be an intriguing game since they are both very good quarterbacks that make good decisions consistently.
Kasey Reusser - BGJack is not happy when I say this, but I have been thinking the same thing as you have just mentioned. . this is the year of the Manning Bowl. It will be Olivia that I will feel for if and when this happens. I cant imagine who Archie will root for . .but it is always the Mom that will have the hardest time watching her boys go at it!!
I'm sure there will be a family party afterwards regardless of who wins if this is the case.
Better a Manning Bowl party than a Brady Bunch bash.
Although I wouldn't mind Tommy Boy getting bashed tonight.
I agree with a Manning bowl party over a Brady Bunch bash. I had a hunch the Patriots would beat the Texans tonight. Their pass defense is weak. Texans play the Broncos again in the playoffs, Denver beats them. It may be a Denver vs New England AFC Championship. I'd love to see that in Mile High, not Foxboro.
Week 14 made the playoff picture muddier not clearer. No doubt wavegirl will get it all sorted out for us for Week 15.
Doubtful Denver can get home field advantage over New England, but who knows. Broncos would have to finish one game ahead of the Patriots since they lost to them during the regular season. Both teams have what you would think could be tough games this week. Denver at Baltimore and San Francisco at New England.
homefield advantage is huge here. If Houston can secure that I see them in the Super Bowl. Otherwise, it's a toss up between Denver and New England.
NFC, is a tough call. It seems there are many good teams who can get there. Front runners are Niners, Giants and even the Seahawks (my long shot surprise)
What happened to the Falcons in the NFC? I mean, they do have the best record.
If the Jets get Braylon back like Sexy Rexy hinted at, wavegirl will be touting the Jets for the Super Bowl again, and singing "New York, New York."
BG you know that is all I have been saying since pre season when the Jets did not score one TD. Other then #sackbrady my favorite tweet is #bringBackBraylon
The Jets other then being one of the suckiest organizations in the NFL have lost their sexiness. I say bring on the snacks let Sexy Rexy gain a few and bring Braylon in to fly high with Mark.
Funny thing is most would think Tebone would have brought some sexy to the team but IMHO he is the antithesis of sexy.
So I see Braylon went to the Jets off waivers. He's probably better than what you have if he's anything close to what he once was. But then, he had a whole lot more potential than success. One big year with the Browns and several other decent ones with the Browns and Jets.
and so my recovery from my dysfunction continues.
So the Jets do Monday Night Football this week. At the Titans. It's got to be more exciting than last night's game, as long as Tebow plays some.
Back together again,
back together again singing the same old story
Back together again, back together again
The old songs never end
Gives you something to believe in.
J ✈ E✈T ✈ S ✈ JETS✈ ✈JETS✈ ✈
What the Jets like best about Braylon is that he tells the truth, like when he called the people pulling the Gang Green strings idiots.
Lol. I'm watching "Mike & Mike" and a commercial was just on with Tim Tebow for TiVo. These two kids are talking to him about how their mom likes to TiVo him and watch in slow motion over and over. One kid says their dad is not his biggest fan.
Bray better makes sure he has his stickums in place for his first few catches while he warms his chemistry up with Mark. No time for dropsies. .
Tebow? Who is Tebow?
As for home field advantage, if Denver is going to get it, they have to beat Baltimore and New England has to lose to San Fran. Losing to the Jaguars at Jacksonville or Miami at home is improbable. If Denver beats Baltimore, they should run the table with Cleveland and KC at home.
When Tebow went to the Jets, I thought they would use Tebow more than they have. Neither Tebow or Sanchez are that good at quarterback. Sanchez had a good first two years, while Tebow won a playoff game with the Broncos last year. If he has someone to work with him on mechanics, he could be a very good QB. Thus far he hasn't had that. It would be strange if the Jets run the table and get to the playoffs.

So what team(s) step up this week and what team(s) fall down?It all starts tonight with the Bengals at Eagles. Then on Sunday afternoon we have games crucial to the playoff picture where both teams are either fighting for a playoff spot or are jockeying for playoff seed. Games like:Green Bay at...

Here we go again.Seattle at San Francisco tonight to start us off. 49ers coming off a real bad hair day and 26-3 humiliation at home to the Giants. Seahawks gave Tom Brady a real bad hair day and squeaked out a 1-point win against the Patriots.49ers favored by 7 1/2. That sounds high to me. I'm...

In order to secure the AFCs No. 6 seed, the Jets have to beat the Dolphins in Miami and the Bengals have to lose to the Ravens in Cincinnati and the Titans must lose to the Texans in Houston and the Raiders must lose or tie the Chargers in Oakland or the Broncos must lose or tie the Chiefs in...

Who will make the NFL playoffs this year? The Packers and the Lions are an obvious duo, and the Ravens are looking sharp, but what other teams to you think are eligible? (Be reasonable please, if your team is below 5-5, don't suggest them)

Im letting BLACKANDGOLDJACK take a break this week by opening the thread for the NFL games for Week 11. He is kind enough to take the task on week in week out so this week I will let his fingers take a break!Week 11 starts out with the the AFC East - Dolphins at the Bills in cold Buffalo. The fins...
