Nike Mercurial Vapors

Updated on January 23, 2013

The Ultimate Cleat

Mercurial Vapors come in many different styles. They all have a similar design, but what sets them apart is the materials used. There are many styles and prices, so you can choose which one is right for you.

Vapor V FG

Vapors are known for there incredibly light weight design. The V FG only weighs slightly over one pound. The lace cover increases ball contact area, and the TEIJIN synthetic leather adjusts to the foot shape making it extremely comfortable. Revolutionary internal chassis creates instant acceleration, and the contoured sock-liner with EVA inserts reduces studs pressure. The direct injected heel studs for weight reduction, while the VAPOR forefoot plate has multidirectional traction pattern. For use on firm natural surfaces.

Talaria V FG

The lower priced version of the V FG is slightly heavier, but still remains one of the lighter shoes at only three pounds. Lightweight Teijin synthetic leather for supreme ball feel. It has contoured speed last, an EVA midsole, and TPU with separated front and back plates for weight reduction. For use on firm, natural surfaces. At about $80 less than the V FG, this is a great buy.

Vapor IV FG

The IV FG is very similar to the V FG, the V happens to be just under a a pound lighter though. The IV FG features soft, suppleTeijin synthetic leather adjusts to the foot shape. Contoured speed last mirrors the foot shape. The lace cover increases ball contact area, and internal chassis creates instant acceleration. Contoured sockliner with EVA inserts reduces studs pressure. Direct injected heel studs for weight reduction. Vapor forefoot plate with multi-directional traction pattern. For use on firm natural surfaces

Talaria IV FG

Very similar to the Talaria V FG, the Talaria IV FG features lightweight Teijin KNG-75 synthetic leather for supreme ball feel. Contoured speed last mirrors the foot shape. Contoured sock-liner with EVA inserts reduces studs pressure. Separated front and back plates for weight reduction. Multidirectional pattern for optimal traction, and a lightweight performance boot for use on firm natural surfaces. It is about $70-$80 dollars cheaper than the Vapor IV FG.

Talaria IV SG

The Nike Talaria IV SG is a lightweight performance soccer shoe for use on soft natural surfaces. The lightweight Teijin KNG-75 synthetic leather adds supreme ball feel. Contoured speed last mirrors the foot shape, and contoured sockliner with EVA inserts helps reduce studs pressure. Separated front and back plates offer weight reduction. Nylon/aluminum screw-in studs provide optimal traction.

Elite Series

The Mercurial superfly's are the best cleats on the market today. They may be $400, but no cleat will perform better.

Traction on demand

In developing NIKE SENSE adaptive traction technology, designers created an adaptive stud that can extend and retract by up to 3mm, based on ground conditions and pressure exerted by the player. Directionally positioned blades maximize cutting and allow for quick changes of direction, while secondary toe traction provides added toe-off power for those first critical steps. The result is a boot that enables greater speed in all directions.

Nike’s design and engineering teams talked with some of the fastest players in the world, who emphasized that acceleration around a defender is just as important as beating him in a straight line. The Nike Sports Research Lab researched the world championship finals in 2006 and found that there were 845 slipping events over 63 games, or roughly 14 per game. Building on these insights, the Nike team collaborated closely with elite athletes including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Pato to create a boot that enables toe-off acceleration and minimizes slippage in game-changing situations.

Athlete insights also pointed to the desire for a close fit around the foot without compromising on durability or support. Next-generation Nike Flywire technology incorporated into the boot’s streamlined upper provides a lightweight, strong and more dynamic fit. The carbon composite tuned chassis provides a lightweight platform with traction elements and allows players to stay closer to the ground.

Good information. I am a striker/forward. I will have to beg my parents for a pair. Thanks for the research and time on this lens.
