NBA Lockout Survival Guide
The NBA Lockout
With the lockout in full effect, I know some of you basketball fanatics are depressed about not having a full season (maybe not even one at all). Kind of brings you back to that year where there was only 50 games played due to the last lockout back in the 1998-1999 season (at least the Knicks went to the Finals that year). But these days, you can keep yourself busy with doing basketball things that is outside the NBA to keep your 'Basketball Jones' going on until these people in the NBA get it right for the fans. So with that said, I would like to present to you my NBA Lockout Survival Guide. I am going to give you four ways to keep yourself occupied while not staying depressed over a shorten season because trust me, some of the professional players are keeping themselves busy as well by signing up for leagues in other countries. Thanks, NBA for not getting it right.
Play NBA Video Games
Just because there’s a lock out season, doesn’t mean that you can’t play NBA video games. It doesn’t matter what game you play as long as it keeps you busy with some basketball. Want to make it more exciting? Play against some friends either at home or online. Plus with the graphics video games have these days, who needs an NBA season. Um, let me scratch that last part out.
Watch NBA TV
If you have cable and you’re not really into the whole NBA video game thing, then take that extra money and subscribe to the NBA TV. This is an all day, everyday channel dedicated to only NBA basketball. You could even watch classic games featuring greats like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. This is as good as it gets if you want to watch actual basketball games during the lockout.
Play Basketball at a nearby gym
Should you feel the need to want to take it to the court on your own, go to a nearby gym or outdoor park if it’s not too cold and get your game on. Play a 5 on 5 with some friends or if you’re good, join a local basketball league. Then after the game, you could all get together and talk some more basketball stuff. This will not only keep you busy with your own ballin, but it with keep you health as well. Be sure to grab that bottle of Gatorade before you go.
Watch College Basketball
If you don’t have the money to subscribe for NBA TV or if you don’t feel like playing NBA video games nor try to go out there to play on your own, then this is as good as it gets to watching basketball on television. These are the college kids that are gunning for that spot in the NBA. The games may be a bit shorter and the arenas are smaller, but the reaction to the college fans are just as amazing as the NBA fans and the college games tend to be more exciting as they are younger, hungrier and itching to show off their talent whenever they are on television. If you have a college nearby you, try to go to a game in person as well. You won’t be disappointed and the tickets are much cheaper.
Basketball Movies
Hey, we are still waiting for this lockout to end. So why not enjoy a good basketball movie to get out Basketball Jones going while these athletes and executives try to figure out a season that is close to being gone. So let's keep our minds busy with some of these great basketball movie classics.
