WCW SuperBrawl

Updated on January 15, 2015

This is SuperBrawl

The show was dubbed "Return of the Rising Sun". This would be the first of eleven SuperBrawl Pay-Per-View events. It would also later become WCW's annual January Pay-Per-View.

6,000 fans came out to see twelve exciting matches including four title matches. There were also three special stipulation matches: A "stretcher match", a "Taped Fist match", and a "Thunderdome Steel Cage" match.

This would also mark the last WCW Pay-Per-View appearance by Ric Flair for two years. Flair left WCW to go to the WWF (as it was known then) shortly before July of 1991 due to a contract dispute.

WCW United States Tag-Team Title Match

The Fabulous Freebirds w/Diamond Dallas Page and Big Daddy Dink vs The Young Pistols

The US Tag-Titles were vacated by The Steiner Brothers after they won the WCW World Tag-Team Titles. And so The Freebirds (Michael Hayes and Jimmy Garvin) and The Pistols (Steve Armstrong and Tracy Smothers) squared off to determine the new Us Tag Champions.

It is Hayes and Armstrong starting the match. They lock-up and Hayes scores with an ARM-DRAG-TAKEDOWN then turns his back with Armstrong trying a ROLL-UP for a pin attempt and a two count. KICK to the mid-sections by Hayes followed by a CHOP and then Hayes throws Armstrong outside the ring. The Freebirds whip Armstrong toward Big Daddy Dink for a CLOTHESLINE but Armstrong ducks and CLOTHESLINES Dink and then DOUBLE-CLOTHESLINES both Freebirds.

Back in the ring Armstrong grabs a HEADLOCK as Hayes pushes him to the ropes where Dink trips him from outside the ring. Hayes STOMPS away at Armstrong when all of a sudden Brad Armstrong shows up at ringside to even the odds. Brad is the older brother of Steve. The Referee then decides to send both Brad Armstrong and Big Daddy Dink to the dressing room so that the match can be decided between the two teams and not outside interference.

Garvin and Smothers are in the ring now and Garvin wastes no time as he gives Smothers numerous KNEES to the mid-section. Hayes tags back in and The Freebirds tee-off with PUNCHES to the head of SMOTHERS. Smothers ducks out of the corner and tags in Armstrong who is perched on the top rope. The Freebirds think they have out-smarted The Pistols but Smothers CLOTHESLINES Hayes out of the ring and Armstrong comes off the top rope and hits Garvin.

Its Garvin and Smothers squaring off once again with Garvin again hitting with KNEES and PUNCHES. Smothers makes a blind-tag (meaning Garvin doesn't see it) and The Pistols hit a DOUBLE-SHOULDER-BLOCK for a two count. Armstrong is now in and Hayes wants a tag which Garvin obliges. Hayes gets in Smothers face and Armstrong tags Smothers in. Smothers with a HEADLOCK as Hayes shoots him off the ropes but Garvin pulls the top rope down and Smothers goes over onto the floor. Outside the ring Garvin BACK-BODY-DROPS Smothers into the guardrail which he hits face first!

Smothers rolls back into the ring where Garvin grabs him and gives him a BODYSLAM and covers him for a two count. Smothers tries a comeback but Garvin answers with a KICK to the gut and then a KNEE to the side of the head. Hayes tags in with a CHOP and a whip to the corner which Smothers reverses and follows up with PUNCHES. Hayes comes back with a left-handed PUNCH of his own. Garvin comes in and tries a BACK-BODY-DROP but Smothers leaps over and delivers a SUPER-KICK.

Garvin and Smothers make tags and Armstrong delivers a BACK-BODY-DROP and then a PUNCH to Garvin. Garvin comes in and gets a BODYSLAM as does Hayes and all four men are in the ring. Hayes and Garvin's heads are banged together and The Young Pistols are going to the top rope but they both miss! Smothers gets thrown outside the ring and The Freebirds throw Armstrong out as well. Smothers comes off the top rope with a DOUBLE-CLOTHESLINE and another one that sends both Freebirds over the top rope and outside the ring. Armstrong flies with a FLYING-BODY-PRESS onto both Garvin and Hayes outside.

Armstrong and Hayes are back in the ring and Smothers comes off the top rope with a FLYING-SHOULDER-BLOCK. They SLING-SHOT Garvin over the top rope and back in the ring. Armstrong hits a FLYING-DROP-KICK but the Referee gets knocked down. Out of nowhere a Masked Man appears and hits a FLYING-CLOTHESLINE and another CLOTHESLINE on both Pistols. The Masked Man then hits a TOP-ROPE-DDT on both Pistols. Hayes pins Smothers for the 1-2-3!
