Top 12 Non Conference Big 12 Matchups

Updated on July 17, 2012

The Big 12 has gone over a couple of changes the last two college football seasons. Last year the Big 12 said goodbye to Nebraska as they joined the Big Ten while Colorado went to the Pac 12. This year they lose Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC. But they picked up West Virginia and TCU to remain a ten team conference even though their name is still the Big 12. The Big 12 was the last conference to win a national title before the SEC reeled off six straight titles. The year was 2005 when Texas led by quarterback Vince Young beat USC in the Rose Bowl 41-38 in a great game that went down to the final seconds. As a conference the Big 12 finished with a 33-5 record in its non conference games putting them second among conference’s non conference records behind the SEC who finished first. Some notable non conference victories for the Big 12 last year were Oklahoma beating Florida State and also Kansas State beating Miami(FL), both teams had to go on the road to do it too. Another big non conference victory came last year when Baylor upset TCU to start the season in a 50-48 shootout. Also last season the Big 12 just missed out on playing for a national title as Oklahoma State finished the regular season 11-1 along with Alabama at 11-1. But the bcs chose Alabama over Oklahoma State to play LSU in the bcs national title game. But the Cowboys did go on to defeat Stanford in overtime 41-38 at the Fiesta Bowl to capture there first bcs bowl victory. Despite the departures of Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC the Big 12 still should be a strong conference with additions of West Virginia and TCU. Here are my top 12 non conference games for the Big 12 for the 2012 college football season. The Big 12 only can schedule three non conference games because they play nine conference games so they really just will schedule on tough game so I could only fine 12 games that stand out in there non conference games.

1. 10/27/12 – Notre Dame at Oklahoma

2. 9/8/12 – Oklahoma State at Arizona

3. 9/8/12 – Miami(Fl) at Kansas State

4. 9/15/12 – Texas at Ole Miss

5. 9/22/12 – Virginia at TCU

6. 9/22/12 – Maryland at West Virginia

7. 9/8/12 – Iowa State at Iowa

8. 9/29/12 – TCU at SMU

9. 9/2/12 – SMU at Baylor

10. 9/1/12 – Tulsa at Iowa State

11. 9/22/12 – Kansas at Northern Illinois

12. 9/8/12 – Rice at Kansas
