Wisconsin - Heaven of Deer Hunitng?

Updated on February 12, 2014

Best Hunting Ground!

The best hunting grounds on U.S. soil would have to be in Wisconsin. Not only is it known as the cheese state, but it is also one of the buffaloes most favorite places to hang around; this in turn makes it many hunters favorite hunting grounds. Buffalo County is most notably recognized for bucks that measure 200 inches in range. Over 10,000 deer can be harvested from this location yearly. This makes the location one of the best hunting places in the whole state of Wisconsin.

Best Hunting Place For Deers!

Aside from Buffalo County, other popular hunting locations involve Bayfield, Marinette, Clark and Jackson, and Waupaca. Marathon County keeps the record for the highest amount of deer which can be hunted yearly. On average, almost 20, 000 deer is harvested in the region.

These hunting fields are evenly distributed in various geographical areas all over Wisconsin. Bayfield is found in the northwest, Marinette is in the northeast, Clark and Jackson is located in the central area, and Waupaca is in the east.

Buffalo County abounds with deer ripe and ready for the hunt. These locations as well as neighboring counties near the Mississippi river are a favorite graze land for most deer. Forests found in the central region can become a target area for hunters too. These include forests of Clark and Jackson, Black River State Forest, Sandhill, Meadow Valley, and Wood County Wildlife protected areas.

The public lands up in the north provide a satisfying hunting ground as well. This stretches up until the border to Michigan. Snow and low temperature is more common in the area too. This is preferred by crossbow hunters simply because it is easier to track and hunt deer with low temperatures.

A white tail buck is what numerous hunters aim for. These are rare among their kind and can surely be boasted as a trophy when captured. Most crossbow and arrow hunters on the other hand prefer the delectable dinner meal which can be achieved when venison is hunted instead.

Since lower temperature areas are the best areas to hunt, the hunting season in Wisconsin starts from September until January of the following year. A 9 days hunting period before Thanksgiving is a popular time for gun hunters. It is followed by another 10 day period right after Thanksgiving.

Deer hunting in Wisconsin demands licenses. It can be obtained through the Department of Natural Resources. Fees begin at $24 for residents of the state and $160 for outsiders. For more details on licensing and other hunting information, you may check the local DNR page for Wisconsin at www.dnr.wi.gov . You may also contact the DNR toll free number at 1-888-936-7463.
