WWF SummerSlam 1988

Updated on January 15, 2015

It's SummerSlam!

The Event drew 20,000 fans to watch ten matches including two title matches. The WWF World Tag-Team and Intercontinental Titles were each defended respectively. This was also shown live on Pay-Per-View.

Summerslam was created specifically to counter the competition's (Jim Crockett Promotions) annual summer event: The Great American Bash. It was the last created of what would become the WWF's four major Pay-Per-Views each year. The others being WrestleMania, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble.

The Summerslam Event has now been happening each August annually for over 25 years.

I remember watching Andre the Giant and meeting him after the wrestling match. He truly was a gentleman and a gentle giant. Wish I knew where the autographs I got went. I would love to have his today.

My favorite wrestler at this time would have been Jake The Snake Roberts, but I also loved Andre The Giant as well. Although I think that initially Hulk Hogan was a bigger star (more widely known), Andre The Giant was absolutely a huge name as well.
