10 Classic Women's Winter Coat Styles

Updated on October 20, 2016

The weather outside is getting frightful, indeed! But the cold weather doesn't mean that fashion needs to go into hibernation. Let's take a trip down memory lane with 10 classic winter coat styles for women (although some of these coats are also for men) that still sizzle today!

The trench coat will never go out of fashion. New fabrics, colors and patterns fit a wide variety of styles. Known for its long length, and double- or single-breasted versions, this coat features a belt that ties at the waist. Can be used for casual wear or dressed up for fancier occasions.

A pea coat is essentially a double-breasted wool coat with two rows of buttons down the front, very similar to a trench coat. Wide lapels and narrow tapering design offer versatility.

This coat is so named because it actually looks just like a dress. This fancy style is usually belted, knee-length and flares at the waist and is popular because it actually becomes the ensemble.

Gone are the itchy garments we remember as kids. Now, wool coats are typically lined with cotton or silk. Naturally water resistant, wool is extremely warm and great for colder climates.

The military-style coat is a classic and simple, with contrast piping and gold buttons as its only real detail. The shape flatters a variety of body types as the cut itself brings balance to the hips and the belt creates the desired waist.

Ideal for chilly and rainy weather, the oversized design feels snuggly and warm. The parka is more practical than trendier coats. Accessories go well with this style and take the coat from everyday to fabulous in a matter of minutes!

Whether you're hitting the slopes or making snow angels, ski jackets will keep you warm and cozy. These puffer-style jackets feature moisture wicking properties and are wind- and water-resistant, perfect for frolicking in the snow.

We're not here to debate the fur issue, but to point out that today's designers have produced countless fake fur offerings. Faux or real, it doesn’t matter. Those who are comfortable wearing faux fur really enjoy it.

Spice up drab winter months with a bright red coat and channel your inner vixen. Whether you go for orange, yellow, pink, blue or green, don't let the cold weather put your style in funk... Add a bright piece to your wardrobe and be fabulous!

With so many styles to choose from, we expect you to go out there and flaunt your chosen style with confidence!
