5 Homemade Hair Treatments for Summer

Updated on August 4, 2015

Coconut Masque

This gorgeous hair masque smells good enough to eat – will deeply moisturize dry or damaged hair and give it an amazing soft sleek feel.

½ ripe avocado

½ cup coconut milk

3 tsp olive oil

Simply mash the avocado up into a smooth paste, add the coconut milk and the olive oil and mix thoroughly to make sure they all mix well. Then heat it up for around 20 seconds, and apply from root to the ends of the hair. Keep it on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight.

Dry or Damaged Hair

This masque is truly amazing, I use this on my hair which is naturally very dry and as I use a lot of heat products, also damaged. It moisturizes pretty much as soon as you put it on – perfect for dry summer locks!

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp white vinegar

1 egg

Mix all the above ingredients well, apply to dry hair and leave on for 25 -30 minutes. Wash off and follow your usual haircare routine. Can be used up two twice a week for super moisturized hair!

Dandruff Control

Ginger is used a lot for medicinal purposes, and one of its characteristics is its brilliant anti – inflammatory qualities, soothing power and it's brilliant way of keeping dandruff away!

½ a ginger root

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp olive oil

An empty spray

Grate the ginger into 3 cups of water, and boil until it reduces (to 1 mug of tea). Add the lemon and olive oil and mix well. Let it cool down a bit then spray directly onto your scalp. Let hair dry naturally and wash out following your usual haircare routine.

Delicious Strawberry Masque

As well as being delicious, strawberries are also a life saver for greasy hair or oily scalps, as they are packed with antioxidents as well as vitamin C which helps give your scalp a bit of TLC.

10 strawberries

1 tbsp coconut oil

1 tbsp honey

Blitz the strawberries in a blender (or mash by hand if you prefer). Add the honey and coconut oil and massage into scalp, working from the roots to the ends. Leave in for at least 30 minutes, then wash out with warm water – voila!

Olive Oil Warm Masque

Olive oil is one item I cannot live without, it is so good for you but also a brilliant moisturiser, and hair hero. For a simple deep oil treatment that is extremely effective, try the hot oil masque.

4-5 tbsp olive oil

Aromatherapy oil of your choice (optional) - rose or lavender works the best

Scarf to cover hair

Warm up the olive oil in a small pan, and add 2 drops of oil if using. Apply to hair, and then tie in a bun/ponytail. If you have very dry hair, make sure you put enough on the roots. Wrap your head in a scarf, and leave on ideally overnight. If you prefer, wash out after a minimum of 2 hours.

You will be amazed at how soft, silky and shiny your hair is after this masque!
