4 Ways To Get Thicker, Fuller Lips

Updated on October 5, 2015

Quick Guide to Fuller, Thicker Lips

Exfoliate - Get that blood flowing

Lip Exercises - Much like any other part of your body, your lips also need exercise to keep looking good.

Cinnamon Leaf Oil - This oil will give you pouty lips

Niacin - This form of Vitamin B3 will improve blood flow, thus giving you fuller, thicker lips

Lately I have become obsessed with getting thicker, fuller lips. It seems that thick lips are everywhere and all gorgeous models have them. My lips are on the thin side, so if I could have thick lips I would feel like the queen of the world. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but at least I know that thicker lips will give me a younger appearance, and that's always good, right?

Collagen injections? No...

Yeah, I know there is the option of injecting collagen in my lips. But I'm not that big on unnecessary medical procedures, and I, much like everyone else, hate needles.

Another disadvantage of injecting your lips with collagen is that you end up with duck lips. Collagen won't give you those Angelina Jolie lips that all of women desire. No, you'll just end up looking like a duck and everyone will notice.

Lip plumpers? No

The other option for quick, thick lips is enhancing lipsticks and glosses. I personally don't like them. I'm trying to be more conscious as to what I slather on my body, and after reading a list of all the ingredients found in those lipsticks I decided to call it quits.

What, then, can naturally give us full, thick, pouty lips?

Let's start with the simplest solutions.

Activate blood flow

One reason your lips can look thin and dull is lack of blood circulation.

Lip Knowledge

  • Lips are very expressive. They turn darker when you see someone you like.
  • According to a study done in Manchester University, men spend more time looking at a woman's lips than any other part of her face.
  • Overly thick lips are a turn off for a lot of men.

It is super important to exfoliate your lips to keep them looking healthy and full. The reason we exfoliate is to promote blood flow- which leads to fuller, redder lips- and to get rid of dead skin cells which make your lips look dull and totally unkissable.

Thankfully, there are many easy ways in which you can keep your lips looking meaty and healthy.

Brush your lips
This is probably the easiest way to exfoliate your lips. After you're done brushing your teeth, brush your lips in a vertical and horizontal motion. Word of caution: don't overdo it with the brushing. I have a friend who took this brushing endeavor too seriously. Long story short, her lips ended up bleeding and very sore for a couple of days. When you brush your lips do it very lightly. If you feel even this light motion is too much, buy a extra soft toothbrush.

Exfoliating your lips with sugar helps your lips stay healthy and plump.

Home made lip exfoliator

This is another easy and yummy way to exfoliate your lips, but it requires a tad more work.

Honey and sugar lip exfoliator
Honey has a bunch of properties and nutrients which can help your lips look plump and seducing. Honey has minerals, calcium, iron, folic acid and selenium, as well as being rich in amino acids.

You will need:

  • A bit of sugar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • A few drops of olive oil

How to do it:

  1. Mix sugar and honey together and massage this mix over your lips. You shouldn't experience any pain, it should actually feel very good and relaxing.
  2. After your lips are thoroughly massaged, allow the mix to stay on your lips for a minute or so.
  3. Massage again
  4. Remove sugar and honey with warm water.
  5. Apply a few drops of olive oil to your lips and leave it on all day long.

**olive oil will keep your lips moisturized and will prevent any unsightly cracks.

Sugar and oil
You can skip the honey and of straight to the delicious moisturization of oil.

Lip exercises

Exercise for lips?!?! What?!?! No, you don't have to get a gym membership or grab your weights. Although if can lift weights with your lips, well, that's just awesome.

The U
One lip exercise to help you get fuller lips is to move your lips as if you were pronouncing the letter 'u', and move them back into a smile, keeping your lips gently pressed against each other. Repeat at least 20 times.

Fingers and lips
Another exercise for fuller lips is placing your fingers at the corners of your lips and gently pulling as if you were making a silly face. With your lips you should try to stop your fingers from pulling. What you're basically doing is using your fingers as weights for your lips.

These exercises must be done every day, doing 2 sets of 10 per day, and increasing the number of sets as your lips get stronger...

Cinnamon leaf oil swells up your lips giving you fuller, thicker lips.

Cinnamon leaf oil

Cinnamon leaf oil increases blood flow to your lips making them look fuller and redder. Keep in mind, though, that this oil is very concentrated and it will hurt if you use it by itself.

How to use cinnamon leaf oil for fuller lips

Add 1 drop of cinnamon oil to 1 tsp of clear lip gloss of even Vaseline. I like to use C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve because it feels like Vaseline but it's 10 times better than Vaseline in both smell and effectiveness.

If one drop is not really doing anything for you, then go ahead and move to 2 drops. Keep adding of subtracting oil according to how you lips feel, but whatever you do, never, ever use cinnamon oil by itself on your lips.

Liquid Niacin

I had never heard about liquid niacin until I became obsessed with having thicker, fuller, Angelina-Jolie lips.

Niacin is a type of vitamin B3 that makes your lips look fuller by causing a swelling effect. Its main effect is on the capillaries (small veins), stimulating blood circulation and thus giving you healthier, fuller, redder lips. Niacin is more expensive than cinnamon oil, and it will also hurt your lips if applied directly or in big quantities. To apply niacin follow the same instructions as with cinnamon oil.

So what do you think? Should we give any of these tips a chance? I think we should.

Happy Living!

      Hello techygran:

Yes, you can obtain the niacin from the capsules. I believe they also sell the liquid, but I can't be sure. Either way, I find the capsules to be more practical and less messy. Thank you so much for your kind words and for reading and commenting! :)

A smacking lovely how-to hub! I am going to give the chubbing up exercises a try (I even have cinnamon oil already- yay!) Is liquid niacin obtained from liquid within capsules or ?? Thanks again! ~Cynthia

These tips are far more sensible than going to the extreme of having surgery. Interesting and well done, Silver Q. They help women to enhance rather than slaughter themselves. You just might be saving some women from getting disfigured.

Great Hub Silver Q. When I was at school the other children mocked me for my big lips. My mother said I'd be happy about them one day and she was right. Now I'm older my lips are shrinking and I'm not happy about it at all. I've also discovered that darker lipsticks are more ageing so must go for pastels. I'll try your exfoliating tip but sadly my dark lipstick days are gone.

This is pretty cool. I nibbled and kissed on my girl's lips so much that they grew to the perfect size but I wait until she takes off whatever lipstick or gloss she may have on. Now I love them :-)

Wow, great hub. Congrats on the HOTD! You have provided excellent tips, naturally, to have fuller and more luscious lips. I had no clue about all of this. All I have ever done is to use one shade darker lip liner than my lipstick around the outer edges of my lips, and instantly my lips look much fuller.

I will be giving all of these a try. I exfoliate everywhere and never thought of doing such to my lips, but now I will do so.

I am glad you wrote this so people who feel they need to change their lips. Ha Ha will know better ways to do this. My aunt used some kind of snake venom and I noticed her bottom lip became droopy. I gave you lots of well deserved pluses on this one. I can see the work that went into this topic. Great job!

At my age, I have the additional disadvantage of aging skin. As skin begins to sag, those lips start to get hidden. So, I'm thinking maybe applying similar techniques mentioned in this hub to the rest of my face and neck as well.

Nicely written. I especially loved your little quip about if your lips can lift weights, that's awesome. I chuckled at that.

Frankly, I believe my lips would fill out if I were simply kissed on a daily basis! Love helps in all things, doesn't it? I think I'll try a few of your suggestions and see if I get some improvement (some orthodonture for my bottom teeth will undoubtedly help, too). I know constancy is an important ingredient for success at any endeavor.

Thank you for sharing. Congratulations on your HOTD. Voted useful and funny (I did love that little quip). Blessings!

      Hi oldiesmusic:

I, too, was surprised when I learned about lip exercises, but they work if you're constant with them. As with any exercise, it requires determination and assiduity. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Wow, I didn't know anything like lip exercises to make lips seem fuller. At least these solutions you have are definitely safer and natural. I think I'll go for the honey and sugar exfoliators (besides it's a more literally sweet way of making the lips fuller hehehe). Thanks for sharing. Voted up and useful.
