Scalp problems can be tricky and irritating sometimes, especially when we have itchy dry scalp. We pour and pamper our tresses with numerous oils, shampoos and conditioners to make them strong, smooth and shiny but somewhere neglect the scalp that holds them. Itchiness can be dandruff, eczema, fungal infection, psoriasis, lice or any allergy. This condition is generally temporary but if not taken care of can be prolonged.

Here are 5 home remedies that we can try to get rid of itchy, flaky and dry scalp.

Homemade Hair Mask is best for scalp problems

Pamper yourself with a rich homemade hair mask and see how natural ingredients can sweep away dryness and itchiness on the scalp. All you need is one ripe banana, honey and onion juice.

Mash banana properly with a spoon of honey such that no clumps are left behind (clumps can be another project to wash off). Mix some onion juice to this mixture and make a paste. Apply this paste on your scalp and keep it on for at least 20 minutes and then wash your hair with shampoo and condition as normally you do.

This pack will not only reduce flakiness and dryness from the scalp but will also make your hair soft, shiny, moisturized. Onion juice will help in hair growth at a faster rate.

Lemon is known for its antiseptic properties. Squeeze some lemon juice and apply it on your scalp. You can either pour or spray or massage using cotton bud, the key is to use fresh lemon juice. The antiseptic nature of lemon will help to ease out the itchiness of the scalp. In case you have a sensitive scalp, it is advised to dilute lemon juice with water. Let lemon juice stay for some 5 to 10 minutes on your scalp before you rinse out.

Another way to use lemon for itchy scalp is to add half of lemon and a small piece of camphor in lukewarm coconut oil. Stir it to let them mix. Apply for 1 to 2 hours and wash with a mild herbal shampoo.

Lemons are easily available in grocery store near you or from the farmer’s market and they are cheap. This remedy can be tried daily as per your requirement. However, the only downside of using lemon juice is that its bleaching property will lighten your hair. If you love natural highlights in your hair, then this remedy for itchy scalp would be an additional bonus.

Essential Oils to treat dry, itchy scalp

An already dry scalp will definitely add itchiness and cause more discomfort. The best way is to moisture the scalp with the goodness of oils. A mixture of essential oils when applied regularly will soak up scalp dryness and provide hair more shine and better health.

Tea Tree oil is anti-fungal in nature and stops over production of white flakes causing itchiness on scalp. Coconut oil provides relief in redness and irritation. It makes a protective shield and locks moisture within. OIive oil contains Vitamin A and E sufficient to cure the damage done by chemical products.
