5 most flattering outfits for short / petite ladies

Updated on April 15, 2012

Many petite ladies are self conscious because of their small frame. It is not difficult to see why; fashion models are at least 5 feet 7 inches in height. While it is true that taller ladies look amazing with lots of different outfits, petite women will look just as great with the right combinations and colors. This hub gives you five very flattering outfits for short / petite ladies.

Causal look for causal work environments – There are lots of work environments that require only causal outfits. In that case, you can save lots of money on professional work attire and accessories such as blazer, suit, leather pumps and nice leather satchel. The look below is great for petite women because of the light blue boot cut jeans (light color and boot cut are super flattering for petite ladies) and the classic black heels. In general, small women look amazing in light colors and high heels.

Formal look for the workplace – Some workplaces require very formal attire for serious work environment. Petite women will look taller with a skirt that hits just at the knees. As a rule of thumb, skirts and dresses should always hit at or above the knees for petite women. Long skirts or dresses will swallow your frame and make you look even shorter than you actually are. For formal work environments, you should pick appropriate accessories. I completed this outfit with a pair of small pearl earrings because they look formal and proportional on a petite woman. Furthermore, small leather handbags are great for the office and petite women.

Weekend causal outfit for spring / fall – This outfit is for a woman that loves feminine style. The pleaded skirt hits just at the knees which is the perfect length for petite ladies. The platform heels are essential for small ladies because most want to look taller than they actually are. Small earrings are used in this look because accessories look the best when they are in proportion with the person wearing them. The heart shape sunglasses add some feminine touches to the whole outfit.

Summer beach outfit – Summer is just around the corner; this look is perfect for petite ladies that love the beach. The yellow dress below has ruffle neck details which will help petite ladies look curvy. Many small women are flat chested; the ruffles at the neck are perfect details that give the illusion of curves at the top. The flip flops are very feminine with some small flowers all over it. I did not complete this look with heels because the yellow dress will draw people's attention to you and your outfit.

Winter peacoat with boots – This outfit is for spring, fall and winter. The black skinny jeans and black stiletto boots will make a petite lady look a lot taller. I selected a cropped peacoat because long coats are not very flattering on small women. Cropped jackets and other cropped tops are great for shorter ladies because it won't make a small woman disappear under long clothing. This look is suitable for work, causal occasions and outings with family / friends.
