An Acne Treatment that Works: Get Rid of Your Acne For Good

Acne sufferers everywhere, take note: There is a daily regimen that actually works!

I first got acne late in puberty and was unable to shake it into my 20s, long after most young people grow out of those lousy red bumps. I tried all sorts of tricks and methods and treatments to rid myself of the persistent malady once and for all, but nothing worked -- not with any consistency at least -- until I realized something:

One treatment method won't do it -- multiple cleansers and creams are necessary to be most effective. And after years of trial and error, I finally found a combination of salves and soaps that works well for me. It will hopefully help relieve your acne, too.

What you need to do

There are things you need to do in the morning, at night, once a day, throughout the day, once per week and as needed.

In the morning

1. Wash your face with the Coral Kavi Sulfur Soap. Pat your face dry.

2. Apply the Miracle Care Pimple Eraser. Though the product package suggests applying it to your whole face, I advise just putting it on your acne to make it last longer. Let dry for a few minutes.

3. Apply the Adult Acnomel to your acne. It generally blends nicely with your skin. Don't gob it on, that will cause too much drying. A thin layer will do.

At night

1. Wash your face with the Coral Kavi Sulfur Soap. There is no need to pat your face dry this time.

2. Wash your face with the Humphrey's Non-Drying Cleansing Gel. Pat your face dry.

3. Apply the Miracle Care Pimple Eraser like you did in the morning. Let it dry for a few minutes.

4. Apply the AcneFree Maximum Strength Repair Lotion to your acne. This is a benzoyl peroxide-based product. Don't abuse benzoyl peroxide: Studies suggest it can cause premature wrinkling if overused.

5. Apply the Adult Acnomel as before.

Once a day

Take your zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C supplements with food. Zinc especially can cause terrible nausea and stomach pains if ingested on an empty stomach.

Throughout the day

1. Drink water. Aim for at least 64 fluid ounces per day with a goal of around 80. Think of it this way: If you fill up one 20-ounce soda bottle with water and drink it all, you're at least a quarter of the way to your goal. Do it four times and you are there.

I cannot stress how important drinking water is. It helps cleanse your body and ensures your face maintains moisture -- that's especially important, since you are using some products that have the effect of removing moisture to eliminate acne. Water keeps your body balanced.

Once per week

1. Carefully apply Kavi Salicylic Acid 15 Comedolytic Skin Exfoliation Mask, following the instructions on the bottle. This product is very strong and might leave a noticeable and sometimes painful burning sensation.

I use it every Monday at night. Do it right before you go to bed -- it leaves your face looking red for a few hours as it slowly kills off your acne and helps you exfoliate.

As needed

1. Use a retinol moisturizer if your skin gets too dry. When necessary, I use it at night, right before I put on the Adult Acnomel.

2. If your dry skin peels and flakes, use the Kavi Premium Microderm Exfoliator Refining Scrub. Use this at night, too, since it will also leave your face a bit red for a couple hours.

Lifestyle changes

This is the toughest part for some people.

Sometimes you have to cut unhealthy foods out of your diet. I've almost entirely eliminated ice cream, chocolate and deep-fried foods from my repertoire of regular ingestions. They are acne triggers and guarantee a breakout each time I eat them.

I have also limited my consumption of soda, red meats and junk food in general. If I go out to dinner, I'll get steak and a soda. But I don't consume them regularly -- the less you eat of the bad stuff, the better.

That doesn't mean you have to become a salad eater or kale fanatic or celery muncher, either. I haven't added much to my diet, I just removed a lot of the worst stuff.

Good luck

After years of battling acne, I finally found a regimen that keeps it under control. Good luck with it, my friends. Acne may win the battles, but you can win the war.
