An Afternoon In Spa Sula
One of my best friends from Germany came to visit us in Ireland for a two weeks vacation. It were lovely weeks full of laughter and joy. My friend and I enjoyed each others company. We did not have to fake each others attitude for we were what we are and we know each other in our adolescence time in the Philippines. Good old friends! That´s what we are.
Since we had visited almost all beautiful places in and around Carne Rock, Belmullet, we decided to have a relaxing afternoon treatment in Spa Sula in Westport where I have not been yet before she came. It was the Spa I was intending to apply as a massage therapist before I arrived in Ireland to live for a few years. Before I found my lovely job in Spa Elysium.
I was so curious how Spa Sula is and my friend was so excited for it was her first visit in a spa. I was gathering information from the people who had visited the spa. Everything I heard was good. So I booked Sundari Abhyanga Massage treatments for me and my friend. We only had to bring bathing suit. Everything was supplied.
The Most Awaited Day
Spa Sula is in Westport Co. Mayo. It is around 1 1/2 hours from where we lived. It was in August and the weather was still good. When we came inside the spa, the receptionist was friendly and she brought us to the waiting room. She gave us a folder with paper to fill up like our names, addresses, allergies, etc. Then she came back after a few minutes to collect them. While we were waiting we served ourselves some fruits and drinks from the table. The waiting room was beautiful and well decorated.
A uniformed, friendly therapist came to us after a few minutes and brought us to the changing room where we wore our bathing suits, got towels, slippers, bathrobes and put our things in the locker. From the changing room, we were ushered to the Thermal Suite.
The Thermal Suite was very stunning. There were:
Foot Spas---There were 2 foot spas with aromatic salt scrub besides your seats. You can choose the temperature of the water you like. It was a wonderful start to relax with my friend.
Rock Sauna---The classical sauna that we have now a days.
Steam Room---The steam room was very humid. It was really good for cleansing my body by sweating.
The Salt Grotto---The salt grotto was beautifully decorated with mosaic. There was a button to be pushed and there comes the shower with the smell of peppermint essential oil. It was so wonderful for my lungs and my sinus. I felt that the aromatic smell was cleansing my lungs and nose.
There were different types of showers: tropical rain, monsoon rain and Atlantic rain showers. There was ice fountain if you want to cool yourself from the heat of the sauna and an outdoor rock pool with massage jets for you to enjoy.
We had an hour complimentary used of the Thermal Suite. My friend and I did not know what to do first for we were so impressed of the things we had seen. We could not believe what we saw. It was like heaven! A tranquility place to relax and a very luxurious one. After calming ourselves, I said we have to start with the foot spas as it´s always the first thing to be done to have a treatment. Then we were trying everything from rock sauna, steam sauna and salt grotto. Every now and then we took different kinds of showers. Then we went to the outdoor pool with jets massage which was in front of the salt grotto. We were like children having found the new toys to played with.
What I like most was the aromatic foot spa, the steam sauna, the tropical shower, the salt grotto and the outdoor pool. It was so great that our one hour time was up and we were collected by our therapists for our booked Abhyanga (Ayurvedic Body Massage) treatments. We were brought to two different rooms instead of one as booked. We were a bit disappointed for we did like to have simultaneous massages. The therapist said that the door for two persons treatment room was defect. So what else can we say? We accepted the reason.
My treatment room was clean, modern and well decorated. The music was very relaxing. The therapist left me alone for a few minutes so I could take off my clothes except my underwear. Wearing a towel around me, my therapist washed my feet, dried them and told me to climb the massage table with the face up. Then she started the massage.
It was very relaxing and I started to sleep when suddenly I realized she was not doing the Ayurvedic massage. What she did was a Swedish massage. I knew that it was not Abhyanga for I love this Indian massage more than the other massages. It was not oily! Ayurvedic massage is an oily massage that I love to give and to take. I did not say anything. I said to myself-- `OK, relax and enjoy it. It´s not what you want but it´s still good. You have enjoyed the day, don´t ruin it by complaining.´ Then I was calm again.
The one hour treatment was finished and the therapist accompanied me to the private sanctuary relaxing room where my friend was already relaxing. It was dark but cosy. There were relaxing huge couches with roofs. There were also fruit bowls and something to drink like teas and juices. It was so quiet as if I was out of the world. I could have slept there the whole day for I was so light footed and every pains and aches in my body were gone. I was in Nirvana.
My friend was like me light footed and was contented and relaxed. It was her first time and she was glad that we did it. So was I. After around 20 minutes of relaxing we had to go for my hubby was waiting for us in Westport city. The receptionist was asking how it was. I said it was good, only I did not have the right treatment that I booked. But then I´ll still come again.
It was a wonderful afternoon, indeed. After a few months I returned to Spa Sula with my hubby and received the expected Ayurvedic massage for I have asked my friend about the name of the therapist who massaged her. It was awesome and I could be there again if and when I visit Ireland in the future. Who knows.........
What kind of treatment would you like to have when or if you are at a spa?
