By the way the company also makes watches for other brands, the Audemars Piguet concern hold's shares of many other company's for example 40 percent of the Jaeger LeCoultre stocks are owned by Audemars Piguet. Audemars Piguet belongs to the top 5 group of luxury watch marketleaders the other brands are Breitling, Panerai Cartier and last but not least the famous Rolex.
The History of Audemars Piguet
Since the beginning Audemar Piguet was located in Le Brassus a small village situated in Vallée de Joux which is to be found in the western part of Zwitzerland near the French border. Audemar Piguet has a remarkable history that started in 1873 when one day the unknown 23 year old Jules Audemars stumbled on a brilliant economics student who's name went by Edward-August Piguet. At this time Edward was only two years younger than Audemars. Not taking themselves to seriously the two gentlemen agreed to start up a watch factory wich they saw as an experiment rather than a Donald Trump kind of business venture. Without expecting it, their experiment became a great success and the brand was getting well known among the local population. The background of the two men came in very handy as the success of the company grew, Audemars was responsible for the technical aspect of the company who as Piguet he took the financial side for his account.
In 1925 Audemars Piguet astonisches the world by presenting the smalest pocket watch ever made, three years later Audemars Piguet does it again by launching a new model that has never been seen before nameley the skeleton watch, the new model made it possible for the customers to see the inner mechanical clockwork. Audemars Piguet continued with the production of small pockect watches until the 1920 s from then on the company started to make the popular watches as we know them today. The brand Audemar Piguet really began to take off in the 1970 s with the launch of their new concept watch "Royal Oak", this watch had a distinguisged look and was seen by many people as having a revolutionairy design, the new model became the flagship of Audemars Piguet for many years to come.
Audemar Piguet has two basic models, the classic model and a sports model.
The classic model has an old fashion look and the design is very simplistic, those watches are being produced in limited quantity's and are therefore very expensive.
The sportsmodel on the otherhand has a tough and sporty design, but looks at the same time very casual, the sports watch goes by the name of Royal Oak. The Royal Oak has become an icon worldwide and has been copied several times, the model is available in different variations but the basic design stays the same. I can describe the Royal Oaks basic design as a watch with the shape of an octagon with 8 big screws mounted in the front, the display has almost always a square pattern. There are two versions on the market, a gentlemen's model and a lady's model, for your information 90 percent of the Audemar Piguet watches sold in the world are Royal Oaks.
Royal Oake Day Date
This timepiece is minimalistic in nature and shows only two elements, which is the date (on the right side of the display) and a day indicator that is situated on the left side of the display. The watch is made entirely out of stainless steel and comes with a bracelet.
Royal Oak Chronograph
The Royal Oak Chronograph posesses a gigantic clock arrow that functions as a stopwatch besides this, there are two small chronos right and left on the display. The chronos show the hours and the seconds. A third chrono that is situated in the middle of the watch displays measurements in minutes, the watch has also a special place where the date and a tachymeter has been integrated rightdown on the main display, with the tachymeter you can measure a cars velocity, now that's something !
Royal Oake Timezones
Besides the local time the Timezone model shows also two other elements, a 24 hour chrono on the left side of the dial. On the right side you have the second chrono that shows 12 hours, the third function gives you the date in the form of a circle with 31 numbers in it. The fourth function displays a less then half a circle that shows the time that remaines before you have to wind up the watch again, when winding up the watch to the maximum it remains functional for up to 48 hours. All of the functions have integrated clock arrows.
Royal Oak Grande Complication
The name says it all, this watch is technically very complicated and it is the most advanced of all the models out there. The watch features a transparant display and has 14 different functions, day, weeknumber, month, season, monthstance and even the stance of the stars !!
Royal Oak Gem Set
The Royal Oak Gem-Set is very much the same as the Chronograph but that's where the comparison stops because this version is much more expensive, the body and bracelet are always coated with pink, yellow or white gold. The entire watch is also coated with diamonds ! Not surprisingly this model is the most expensive watch in the world that has entered production so far .
Royal Oak Tourbillion
This beautyfull Royal Oak Tourbillion comes with a completely transparant display so that the inner clockwork is visible, this timepiece is a hand wound model that features water resistance, a GTM funtion and selection indicator. Having a fragile appearance due to it's transparancy do not be mistaken the watch has a titanium case so it's still very tough.
Royal Oak Offshore
One of the most popular version of the Royal Oak, this timepiece is almost entirely made up out of heavy titanium. Only some parts are made out of platinum, experts say the Offshore model is nearly indestructible. The features are water tightness, heat resistance, shockproof, and free of scratches, the Offshore models are widely used in extreme sports. Every Offshore model has extensively been tested by schientists with elements as gravity, weather, and temperature although there are no such things as diamonds and gold to be found on this model it is not cheap mainly because of the design work and research that previously has been done resulting in it's nearly indestructibility. What do I have to say about the looks ? well the watch has a sober and indistinguible design so is the strap that is made of rubber.
Audemars Piguet: Gstaad Classic Limited
With a 20 meter waterproof case surrounded by titanium, the Audemars Piguet Gstaad Classic is both elegant and tough, the watch features two counters, the one on the right side displays a small seconds subdial, on the left there is a 30-minute chronograph counter a tachymeter is also integrated. This piece of art comes with a sapphire-crystal, transparent case back and a reddish bordeaux leather strap that is inspired by the car racing era of the 1930s, there is no worrying here about winding up the watch because it happens automatically. Also the Gstaad Classic is a limited edition, that's right only 250 of them have been made but again no worry's, there is always somebody who is getting tired of collecting a lots of stuff, and if your lucky maybe the watch will be put for sale one day.
Audemars Piguet: Classique Clous de Paris
Is this a romantic watch ? well it depends on how you see it, if you ask me I find this watch prettier than it is romantic because I do not think crocodile leather is in any way romantic. She is a beauty isn't she, the case of this magnificent watch is decorated with 18 carat pink gold so are the hour makers which is a small but not unimportant detail, Al that comes together with an ivory coloured hobnail motief on the background of the dial. The watch has a water resistance of 20 meters, not bad at all for a model that is not catalogued as a sports serie. Remaining features are, the handstiched strap with large crocodile scales, glareproofed sapphire crystal and a polished bezel with "Clous de Paris" in hobnail motif on it.
Audemars Piguet: Grande Complication Classic
Audemars Piguet Classic Grande Complication is a great watch to wear as usual with its high quality standards, the case is 42x42x14 mm 950 platinum enforced with a sapphire back and a white dial. The watch features a automatic-winding mechanism and fully integrated is the Audemars Piguet Calibre 2885 movement system with perpetual calendar, minute repeater, split-second chronograph, and small seconds counter, Not having to think about headaches the watch holds approximately 50 hours of power reserve, the leather strap comes in different colours and features a folding buckle.
Audemars Piguet: Classic Men's Platinum
Classic is the watches middle name and classic it is for sure, just looking at the case says enough. The numbers are displayed in the good old fashion roman style alrighty then ! Having a 33.25mm case in platinum combined with a less is more design the watch looks truly large. Further specifications are automatic movement, a roman white coloured dial and a black leather strap.
Audemars Piguet: Double Fuseau Horaire
Audemars Piguet's Double Fuseau Horaire is not one of a kind, but as the watch is brought out in 3 variations I could say a 3 of a kind model. The main colour is pink gold but there are also variations with a pinkgold casing, arrows and hour makers in combination with a black dial. The second model is very much the same but has a silver casing and dial instead. Basic functions are hours/minutes, date, second time zone and the power reserve indicator. The casing has a 41.00 mm diameter that is accommodated with a 20 meter water depth resistance, in addition the strap holds a folding buckle. The used material in which the strap is made of is leather.
