Bad Places to Get a Tattoo: Six Places on Your Body Never to Get Tattooed
Bad Places to Get a Tattoo
Tattoos rock! I love them and have a ton of them to prove it. That being said, there are places I won't ever get tattooed, six to be specific. The six places mentioned below are bad places to get a tattoo for any number of reasons. Some might surprise you and one spot will down right shock you!
This is absolutely at the top of my list of bad places to get a tattoo. It seems like it should go without saying and yet here I am saying it. Mike Tyson's crazy facial tattoo should be a lesson to us all. Whether you are willing to admit it to yourself or not, your taste will change. But without the use of lasers, a facial tattoo never will. Not to mention you're probably limiting your employment options. Bottom line: DO NOT TATTOO YOUR FACE!
I should admit that I even toyed with the idea of getting a small facial tattoo. It was during the days of my girl crush on tattoo artist Kat Von D and I was seriously thinking of getting a few stars on my temple like she has. It was a 24 hour crazy spell that I didn't follow through on. Again, unless you are are the super fabulousness that is Kat Von D, DO NOT TATTOO YOUR FACE!
Again not everyone agrees with me about this area being a bad place to get a tattoo, but my motto is "if you can't easily cover it, don't get it tattooed." The more diehard ink aficionados may balk at my desire to cover up, but I acknowledge that we live in a society that is not always as open and approving of people with tattoos as I'd like it to be. It's unfortunate , but we all judge each other on our appearance to some degree, for better or worse. So why not make choices that allow you to enjoy your ink, but cover it up when necessary. It should also be mentioned that getting a tattoo on your hand can be excruciating as the skin is not very thick on the top side and the palm is insanely sensitive. My advice is to avoid tattooing your hands unless you're willing to wear gloves to all of your future job interviews.
The jury is split on whether tattooing your fingers is a bad place to get tattooed or not for various reasons. One tattoo artist who has done work on me flat out refuses to tattoo people's fingers because the work never stands up. She can't guarantee the end results, so she won't do it as she doesn't want her name associated with sub-standard work. Structurally fingers are not the ideal place to tattoo, just not a great surface to work on.
A hot trend at the moment right now is getting the inside of your finger tattooed with a mustache or a word. Again, not a great idea because the skin on the inside of your finger is so thin it will not hold the ink very well and may end fading quickly and needing to be redone over and over. Worse yet the skin could split while you are being tattooed which is unbelievably painful.
Some people will absolutely not agree with my inclusion of the upper chest in my bad places to get a tattoo list, but hear me out. I look at tattoos as a way of enhancing who I am, not taking me over. So I choose strategic places on my body that I can reveal when I want to. Once you tattoo your upper chest your tattoo takes front and center stage, not your face. People will no longer be looking at your face when you speak they will be distracted by the art on your chest. Who you are and what you have to say should still be the most important thing about you. And unless you plan on wearing turtle neck sweaters constantly, this one will be a hard one to hide.
Side of the Neck
Side of the neck tattoos are becoming increasingly popular, but they pose the same issues that a high chest tattoo does. The main reason that I have included this spot in my list of bad places to get a tattoo are that they are very difficult to hide and distract people when they are speaking to you. Not long ago, I was watching one of my favourite TV shows that featured a guest star with a neck tattoo. I seriously could not concentrate on a word his character was saying because I was fascinated by the swallow tattoo on the side of his neck that was jiggling up and down every time he spoke. And once your neck is tattooed it is next to impossible to disguise yourself as an un-inked "normal."
Would you or do you have a tattoo in one of the following areas?
I'm sure that I don't need to spell out what area I am talking about here and why this is a bad place to get tatooed. And I am also sure that you are just as shocked as I am that people are actually willing to get this area tattooed or can even find someone to tattoo this spot. There are so many reasons not to do this, least of all the pain factor, which I can only guess would be excruciating. And how on earth would this area heal? The bacteria issue alone. I suppose on the plus side it would be well hidden and may not affect your employment chances, unless they heard you had one. Okay, enough, just don't do it.
So there you have it, six bad places to get a tattoo according to me. Of course these are just my six no-no zones, yours may differ. Although I'd be willing to bet most people would agree with the final one. Either way, let me know where you think a bad place to get a tattoo is. I love to hear from the inked and un-inked masses alike. Happy inking and remember to avoid the back door.
