Banana for Face means a Smooth Face Skin

Updated on March 10, 2014

Banana for face is not very popular compared to other fruits like apple or avocado, when we think about fruits used to make face masks, although it is well known that applying banana on face makes it very smooth. Thinking of banana as merely a good source of Potassium and Fiber with some carbohydrates, makes it not very enticing to be included in homemade facial masks.

Looking deeper in the composition of Banana, we will find that it contains good amounts of 5 constituents which are very friendly to the skin. These are vitamin B6, vitamin C, Manganese, Magnesium and enzymes. To get the details of the effects of Magnesium and Manganese on the skin, you can read this hub Oats for Face. Today we will discuss the effects of Vitamin B6 and enzymes on the face skin.

Vitamin B6:

Vitamin B6 has a crucial role in carbohydrates and protein metabolism, and because of its key role in the formation of new cells, vitamin B6 is especially important for healthy function of body tissue that regenerates itself quickly. The skin is exactly this type of tissue, and it is one of the first to-appear- problems when B6 is deficient. Many skin disorders have been associated with B6 deficiency, like dry skin, hair loss and appearance of cracks around lips. Bananas are an excellent source of vitamin B6 which helps in treating a number of skin problems including eczema, dandruff, acne, hair loss and dry skin.

Banana contains the enzymes Amylase and Pectinase, which are responsible for ripening of banana at room temperature in temperate zones. Banana contains also an enzyme inhibitor called protease inhibitor. Protease inhibitor has antibacterial effect, and it helps eliminate bacteria in the stomach that is the primary cause of stomach ulcers. The effects of these enzymes on the face skin is not heavily investigated, nevertheless when banana is mixed with other ingredients, these enzymes analyze these ingredients into their primary constituents, which are more beneficial to the skin.
