Bare Minerals makeup / foundation review on acne and sensitive skin type

Updated on December 20, 2012

Bare Minerals makeup / foundation collection is well known in the United States as a natural makeup company. Lots of people are loyal supporters of their products and will not use any other brands. Over a year ago, I developed moderate to severe acne. In a desperate search of covering up those annoying acne, I had decided to give Bare Minerals makeup / foundation a try. This hub is my review of their makeup / foundation in several aspects. Hope it can help you make a decision of whether or not to purchase products from this brand.

For sensitive and acne prone skin? I have super sensitive / acne prone skin and it's worked great for me. At first, I thought it might irritate my skin so I just tried it at the makeup counter on my face. At the end of the day, it didn't seem to cause any irritations. Then, I went back to the store to purchase it. It's been more than 1 year since I have started using Bare minerals' products. It's never irritated my skin. However, I heard from a few people that it is not for everyone. It's better to try it on at a makeup counter.

Coverage? The coverage is medium to good. Although it cannot cover as much as liquid foundation. Almost nothing covers like liquid foundation anyways. It is good at hiding redness and irritations. It cannot cover uneven skin tone. For my purpose, I think it covers up most of my pimples that I don't want the world to see. So, it works great for me.

Costs? Bare minerals products are on the expensive side. A medium jar of the powder is about 20 or 25 dollars. However, it lasts a pretty long time for me. But if you have more cover up to do for your acne, it might last only 1 or 2 months. I recommend getting the starter kit from them because it is a better deal. You get most of the powders and brushes you need to get started. Overall, for someone that don't need much acne coverage, it is fairly affordable. Even for someone that needs heavy coverage, I would still say that Bare Minerals makeup is affordable.

Product variety? In addition to skin foundation products such as primer, makeup base, foundation, blush, mineral veil, it has lots of makeup items as well. They have many eyeshadow colors that will cater to even the pickiest consumers. So, I would give them very high scores for product variety. However, I have not tried their makeup items so I don't know how well it works. You can always ask for a free makeover at their makeup booth in the mall.

Availability? Lots of retailers all over the United States and some other countries carry Bare minerals makeup because it is a very known brand. In some shopping malls, bare minerals even have their own store to help you make selections on their products. It is fairly easy for you to try their products because of wide availability.

Recommended or not recommended? I would recommend this brand to most people because I have a very positive experience using them. I have used it for more than a year and plan to continue using this brand until I find something even better. Their moisturizer is one of the best that I have used and that product deserves special mention. My skin has gotten so much better from using the moisturizer and the price for all their products are affordable (for the quality).
