The Best Hair Conditioners

Updated on June 8, 2011

With the right conditioner, you can actually achieve some magical effects when it comes to your hair. A good conditioner should moisturize your hair and add noticeable shine to its look. There are some great conditioners that are available on the market right now.

The trick to figure out which one suits your hair best. Unfortunately, there is no other way to do this other than testing out your products. Even though no conditioner works for EVERYONE, there are some highly-reviewed conditioners that have made majority of their users happy. The list below shows ten of the best conditioners that are available right now. Hopefully this list will make it easier for you to pick the type of conditioner that best suits your hair.

I haven't tried out all of these conditioners, but I will be sure to also add a bit about my personal experience with the ones that I have tried. The prices I have listed may not be the price that you will have to pay – but they should be close enough the actual retail values. I ranked these products by taking the online reviews, rankings and my personal experience into account. Let's start with NO. 10!!!!!!!!!

Suave Professional Conditioner, Humectant

Price - $2 - $3

This conditioner is an absolute STEAL. If you want a conditioner that is cheap, yet delivers as if it is worth much, much more – this conditioner is the way to go. It promises salon quality results as a suave price, and I am happy to say that it does not break its promise! I bought this once when I was in dire need of conditioner and had to search for some dollar bills to buy one – and I was amazed. My hair was soft and beautiful – and that is all I could ask for!

Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner

Price - $7

This is another lovely conditioner that really lives up to its name! I remember that before I used this my hair was INCREDIBLY dry and quite frizzy. (This was also when I was ignorant and thought that dry brushing curls was the way to go – yikes!) After the conditioner, my hair was transformed into shiny, hydrated locks that. It also smells quite nice – this is a great everyday conditioner.

Garnier Fructis Fortifying Cream Conditioner – Triple Nutrition

Price - $7

This is a great daily conditioner. I love its smell and it strengthens your hair as promised. The fact that it is incredibly easy to find is a great plus. It leaves my hair soft and shiny and you cannot deny that it is quite a nice price. I am a long time fan - Love Garnier!!

Philosophy Amazing Grace Perfumed Hair Conditioner

Price - $21

This I haven't tried – but I decided to include it here because it has great reviews. I plan on trying this very soon. As far as online reviews go, it seems like a stellar product that produces beautiful results after usage. The general consensus is that it makes your hair very soft to the touch and gives it a silky feeling. Also, the fact that it is perfumed is quite a plus – who doesn't want nice smelling hair these days?

Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner

Price - $15

This is mostly, perhaps even exclusively, available online. This is made for very curly ethnic hair and has a huge success rate. For those with very curly hair, I would highly suggest that you check these products out. Ethnic hair unfortunately does not have great drug-store products available as now, so this is an absolute blessing for those with tight curls. This is a product that is not just for mixed chicks! :)

Aubrey Organics - Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing Conditioner

Price - $10

This is golden – especially because it is an organic conditioner that. It has a very distinct, sweet smell that I absolutely adore. It has an extremely high rating, especially because in addition to being a great moisturizer, this is also a fantastic detangler. One thing that really stood out to me was how it defined the texture of my hair extremely well. For those trying to stay from sulfates, this is probably the best conditioner that is available in the market right now.

Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask

Price - $7

Let's just say that this conditioner is very appropriately titled. This very thick mask is great for some hair recovery. I randomly came across this mask and decided to give it a try, and I am so glad that I did. The “Triple Moisture” effect will make a huge difference, especially for thirsty, frizzy hair. If you need to add some wow-factor to be added to your hair, this product just might take care of that for you.

Kératase Nutridéfense

Price - $54

I have not tried this, especially due to its hefty price. BUT after seeing it being called the “holy grail” that turns “straw into silk”, I am very tempted to try it. Almost every reviewer has mentioned that the price is well worth it and that it results in luxurious hair. The price and the fact that I have not tried it discourages me from giving it a higher ranking, but if I ever decide to spend that much money on a conditioner, I will definitely update with the results.

Frederic Fekkai Protein Rx Reparative Conditioner

Price - $23

This is another product that I need to test, but the ratings tell me that there is a quite a big chance that I might fall in love with this product. Believe it or not - it actually is a reparative conditioner! This leaves even the most overly-processed, damaged hair looking great – and if it can make the worst hair look great, I wonder what it can do for hair that quite healthy to begin with. Frederic Fekkai is the master of hair care after all, so I am not surprised that his product is doing so well.

Biolage Hydra Therapie Conditioning Balm

Price - $24

This – I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. This is my saving grace whenever my hair looks absolutely DISGUSTING. I use this as a deep-conditioning treatment, and sometimes just as a regular conditioner. This is such a thick conditioner that will detangle your tangliest tangles. This will add a gorgeous shine to your hair and make it seem full and luscious. I always receive compliments on my hair when I use this product. If you are a curly girl, this will also define your curls beautifully too! For best results, leave it on for about a half an hour or an hour – you will see how much of an amazing difference that will make. It is a bit on the pricey end, but it is an absolute miracle-worker that never fails to give me stunning results, so I cannot complain! ;)

Again, just because they worked for me and others does not necessarily mean that they will work for you. However, I think at least a few of these should work on the average person's crowning glory, especially because they have such great reviews from lots of consumers. What are your experiences with these or any other conditioners? Let me know – I would love to hear from you!!
