Best Perfumes for Young Women (2012)

Updated on April 26, 2012

2012 Young Women's Perfume

Its 2012 already and I'm excited to see what this year will bring to the world of perfume. Every year hundreds of perfumes are released and some are a big deal and some are not. This year I think we can expect some really nice perfumes to be released for young women. A few perfumes have already been announced that seem interesting and worth mentioning. Below I have chosen a few perfumes that I feel will do well this year. Many of the perfumes mentioned below are available to buy and other have yet to be released

2012 Trend in Women's Perfume

As I began doing some research on perfumes being released this year I noticed an obvious trend in young women's perfume. It seems like every celebrity needs to have a perfume. Celebrities have always released perfumes, but it seems like it is becoming more common this year. As you read my list of 2012 perfumes for young women you will see that a significant number of them are associated with a celebrity. Perfumes have always been associated to stores, brands or fashion designers but now more than ever they are associated to celebrities.

Young Women's Perfume List

After doing my research I came up with a list of 10 perfumes that you should look for in the year 2012. I have selected these perfumes based on their appeal to young women and their brands popularity and reputation. I also used my own personal taste and preferences when determining which perfumes were going to make the list. The only rule that I followed is that each perfume on the list needed to have been released in 2012 or is scheduled to be released in 2012. Keep in mind if it hasn't been released as of February of 2012 I haven't actually smelled it since its currently unavailable. For the perfumes that made the list that are not available they were selected based on their brands popularity and reputation for creating quality perfumes.

10. Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty

Calvin Klein is releasing a new edition of the perfume Beauty by Calvin Klein that was released in 2010. The original Beauty was a classic floral fragrance that appealed to more mature women. This new fragrance is meant to be light, fresh and simple which should appeal to a younger generation. Sheer Beauty is still a floral much like the original, but it introduces notes of berries and other fruity notes. If you are looking for a simple everyday perfume this might be a winner for you. Sheer Beauty by Calvin Klein was released in January of 2012.

9. Alien Aqua Chic from Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler plans to release two new editions to its line-up of Alien Perfumes this March. The Alien Aqua Chic sparked my interest since Thierry Mugler plans to keep it close to the original, but make it lighter with citrus and fresh accords. The original Alien Perfume was an intense floral and woody fragrance that young women may not have generally gone for. This new version with notes like ginger and freesia should appeal more to young women.

8. DKNY Sweet Delicious Pink Macaroon from DKNY

DKNY will be releasing a new collection of perfumes this spring that is inspired by cupcakes. They will release Pink Macaroon, Tart Key Lime and Creamy Meringue. I think the Pink Macaroon perfume is getting the most attention of the three. Pink Macaroon will be a fruity floral fragrance with warm, nutty notes. Overall the perfume will be very sweet, which many young women enjoy. Keep an eye out for this one in the spring of 2012.

7. Omnia Coral from Bvlgari

Bvlgari is releasing another edition to its Omnia collection. Omnia Coral is a fruity floral that is fairly simple, but is packaged in a beautiful bottle. It is a pleasant perfume that isn't over the top. Omnia Coral was recently released and people have been comparing it to Daisy So Fresh from Marc Jacobs. Omnia coral has a strong pomegranate and hibiscus note that should be appealing to young women.

6. Pulse Summer Edition Beyonce

Beyonce has released a new version of her original fragrance Pulse; which will be called Pulse Summer. The original version of Pulse received mixed reviews, but I think overall it was a nice fragrance that was obviously created for young women. This new version of Pulse will be quite different than the original Pulse. The original was a warm citrus fragrance and this new version will be a fruity floral that is meant for summer. The summer edition is meant to be light, care-free and playful.

5. Eau de Glow Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez has been involved in perfume for 10 years, when she released her first fragrance called Glow in 2002. Eau de Glow is a new version of the original Glow and should be released in early 2012. This new version of Glow will be a softer perfume with more floral notes and less musk notes. The fragrance is a clean, fresh smell the might remind people of soap or freshly washed skin. It should be a delicate perfume that should appeal to most young women.

4. Truth or Dare Madonna

2012 must be the year of Madonna with her new album and Super Bowl performance she has also decided to release a new perfume. The perfume is called Truth or Dare and should be released later this year. Rumor has it that Madonna is fairly involved in the process of making her new perfume. The perfume will be targeted towards middle-aged women and will have a strong white floral accord with vanilla notes. However, I feel this fragrance will also attract young women under the age of 25 due to the pop culture reference

3. Black XS L'Excess from Paco Rabanne

This is going to be a new version of Paco Rabanne's Black XS called Black XS L'Excess. The original Black XS had strong cocoa and vanilla notes where this new version will still have the vanilla notes, but with stronger floral notes. If you were a person who thought the original Black XS was too strong you may find this version more appealing. Black XS L'Excess is a great perfume for young women wanting a fragrance for night life. If you are interested in Paco Rabanne's Black XS L'Excess it is available in stores now.

2. Nina Fantasy from Nina Ricci

This is a limited edition perfume that is being added to Nina Ricci's "Nina" collection that started in 2006. Nina Fantasy was inspired by the spring season. This is a very sweet and youthful perfume. It is often times described as smelling like bubble gum or a candy store. If you are a fan of sweet perfumes you are going to love this one. Nina Fantasy has notes of sugar, vanilla and cherry blossoms. Overall the fragrance has a sweet floral accord to it which most young women will enjoy.

1. Princess Night from Vera Wang

Vera Wang has created a new version of her Princess Perfume that was released in 2006. The new version called Princess Night is designed to be worn at night. Princess Night will still have the warm vanilla notes like the original, but it will introduce more fruity notes to the mix. Princess Night is a sweet fragrance that doesn't get too sweet. Princess Night is a perfect blend of floral and fruity notes that are balanced with warm vanilla notes. This is a very nice perfume and it is available in stores now.

Appealing Perfumes for Young Women

In general when a perfume smells fruity, sweet or bright it is often categorized as a youthful fragrance. I'm not sure if that is necessarily true for everyone, since I'm very aware that everyone has different taste in perfume. I do know that as one gets older our style and taste in perfume does change. For this list I did find myself choosing a lot of light or fruity floral perfumes because that is what I feel most young women are wearing today. I hope you have discovered a few new perfumes from this list, or perhaps you confirmed that you do want to buy that perfume you have been thinking about. Either way I hope you found this list helpful.

Hi - can't wait to try the new Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty as I do love the original. You're right that your preferences in perfume change as you get older and the lighter, floral scents tend to be preferred when you're younger. I'm enjoying wearing Juicy Couture at the moment (for day wear), which has a youthful fruity fragrance, but if I'm going out to an expensive restaurant in the evening (not often!!), I like Chanel's all-time classics, like Coco Chanel or I do like the Chanel Chance range.
