Best Tips for Silky Smooth Legs

Updated on August 1, 2010

We all love the way we look and feel when we have silky smooth legs.  Shaving is our leg hair removal of choice.  We don't like the chemicals in products like Nair, and waxing just hurts!  If you do wax, use OraJel on your legs first to numb the skin, that helps a little, but the hair is still going to grow back, so why go through all that?  Shaving is quick, easy and very effective if you know how to do it right.

Best Tips for Silky Smooth Legs

  • Invest in a good razor and keep your razor in tip top shape.  Rinse it well after each use and change the blades often.
  • Wait for about a half hour before you shave your legs in the morning.  Our bodies get puffy at night and this will give them a chance to reduce that sleepy time puffiness for the closest shave.
  • Allow legs to soak in the tub for a few minutes, then exfoliate them gently by scrubbing with a loofah sponge and your favorite shower gel.  Rinse well.
  • Use a good shaving cream.  If all else fails, hair conditioner will work, but hair conditioner is not a cost effective choice and won't perform as well as a shaving gel or cream.
  • Start at your ankle and work your way up, rinsing your razor often.  It's most popular to shave all the way up and over your thighs, but it's your preference.  Go at least a few inches above your knee caps though so you don't have "bangs" on your legs.
  • Knees are the trickiest to shave, use one hand to stretch the skin around for the best angles and shave with your other hand.  Keeping your leg just slightly bent while you do this is usually the easiest way to do it.
  • You can also shave the tops of your toes and feet if they need it.
  • Rinse thoroughly in cool water.  Warm water will dry skin out, so keep it on the coolish side.
  • Pat legs to a semi-dry stage, don't rub and don't dry completely.
  • Apply your favorite lotion and you are ready to go!

Using these tips should help your legs stay smoother longer.  Apply lotion daily and shave when needed.  A couple of times a week should be enough.

We love to hear from the men! The tip about waiting a bit in the morning before you shave will help you get a smoother shave too.
