Best Women's Plus Size Swimwear and Swim Suits - 2013 - 2014 Review
Women's plus Size Swimwear and Bathing Suits
As the world embraces womanly curves, the round childbearing bodies that the average woman has, the more the world is producing stylish clothing for that body type. If you are a curvy and plus size woman, I’m sure you can relate to the anguish of trying to find a swimsuit that flatters your body. Finding a good suit, no matter what your size, depends on a few factors.
First you need to find a suit that matches your body. I love the open sided suits that have been so popular for a few years now, but my torso is very short and my obliques are not svelte. So, don’t buy into a style just because it’s trendy. Many manufacturers also offer the same kind of suit in a few different cuts. The most popular of these are tankini’s with shorts, or skirts. Plus size women tend to need tummy control and hip/thigh coverage. Not to mention a supportive bust as well. If you are shopping online, take your measurements beforehand so you can more readily find your size.
The print of your swimsuit should also be taken into consideration. Prints can confuse the eye and help blend lumpier parts. Many women wear prints to keep nipples from being so obvious as well. Larger print patterns are quite in style this season, so keep your eye open for one that is neither too garish, nor too bland for your tastes.
Remember, you want balance when it comes to finding a suit that you will look good in. When you neutralize the parts of your body you don’t like, and emphasize the parts that you do like, you find balance in what you wear. Neckline, length and fabric will draw the eye to your body, so make sure it’s where you want it to be!
Best Tankini's for Plus Size Women - Top Bathing Suits
Best Plus Size Swimwear Review
This Sunsets Twist Tankini gives a lot of conservative coverage but still flatters with a cute floral print on a bright blue background that twists at the cleavage. The shorts are a dark pink color that complements the flowers in the top. For those that need underwire support, this suit accommodates, and is pretty comfortable as well. The underwire is sewn in to be considered “floating”, so you don’t feel it as intensely as a bra. With the added benefit of some power netting, you get more than adequate support in this suit. The straps go over the shoulders and are adjustable as well.

If you prefer a tankini with a skirt, you might like the Sunsets Sole Twist Tankini. It features a twisted decollete and over the shoulder straps that can be adjusted. The top has a white Aztec looking print on a red background. The skirt is colored solid red. This is also a very modest suit with moderate coverage and lots of support with the underwire, power netting and supportive band.

For those that might just need a top to match some other bottoms, take a look at some of the following Tankini’s from Sunsets. My favorite here is the Sunsets Mise Bandeau Tankini. This one has a bright yellow, orange, and pink floral design on a black background. The adjustable straps go over the shoulder. Keep in mind that this bandeau only features soft cups inside, a soft under band and some light netting. This would be adequate for a woman who is not quite so top heavy. The bandeau cinches in the middle for more style as well.

If perhaps, you are in the market for a bottom, look at this Jessica London Women’s Inches Off Swim Skirt. You have a couple of floral prints to choose from, a feathered print, and three solid colors as well. It features an elastic waist that has a tummy control brief inside, and the skirt has powernet lining on it. The mesh panels inside the brief do wonders for slimming; I feel very tight in this skirt. The length of the skirt is perfect for me at 14 inches long.

Fall in love with this Roamans Side Bow Swimdress. For good waist and hip coverage, this dress will make you feel flirty and fun. It features a bandeau style cut that gives it an empire waist kind of look. I like the navy blue, but it comes in black or gray as well. There is white fabric across the neckline with a darling bow at one strap. The straps go over the shoulder and are adjustable, as well removable. You will get a good hourglass shape from this swimsuit and the cups are soft with adequate support. The seams in both the front and the back also flatter your figure as well. I like that the fabric is chlorine resistant so you get a lot more wear out of it. You get about 32” of coverage which is nice if you like to stay out of the sun more than others. It also gives you UV/SPF coverage of 40 as well.

If you have a great bust, check out the Robby Len Twist Front Swimdress. It features dark fabric that has some white striping at the bust to draw the eye there. This is a good suit if you want to take attention away from your hips and legs, and to your upper body. It has a wide skirt that hides more than you think it will. The thing that I love about Robby Len suits is that they last a lot longer in chlorine than many others I’ve worn. This suit is not advertised as being chlorine resistant but something they do to the fabric makes it very long wearing.

For a truly classic Hollywood style swimsuit, check out the Torrid Plus Size Black Halter One PIece. This attractive suit is tight in all the right places for good support. You could even wear it as a strapless suit if you wanted because it stays up so well. If you need great tummy and side control, this has got it. It is cut halter style with straps that tie in the back. The hip cut is moderate and features a boy short cut in the back. There is a small opening just under the cleavage to give a hint of skin. I love that this suit is sexy but not very revealing at all. The cut is also quite flattering on many body types.

For those that are active in their swimwear, you might like the Swim 365 Blouson Swimsuit. It comes in five colors to choose from and features foam cups for bust and an adjustable drawstring tie on the side to make it a firmer fit. The straps are stretchy and fit quite comfortably. There is a suit liner under the skirt with lining throughout as well. I like that it is a bit loose and baggy in the front to hide my rolls.
Best Speedo Bathing Suit
If you are a no frills kind of girl and just need a suit to get wet in, then consider this Speedo Aquatic Xtra Life Ultraback Swimsuit. It offers great coverage with a tank like top and low cut hips. It is made to resist chlorine and sunlight up to 5-10 times longer than your average suit on the market. There are soft cups inside for smoother bust support. Be advised that you should hand wash this in cold water and lay flat to dry. This will further extend the life of your swimsuit. I found that this suit ran kind of big, so I highly suggest you buy one size smaller than you typically are. I can get a lot of laps in without this suit even thinking about riding up.
Best Plus Size Speedo Swimwear
For a bit more sporty style, consider this Speedo Piped Empire Swimsuit. It has low hips with a full posterior coverage. The neckline is slightly curved with piping along the top, and on the edges of the straps down to the bottom of the bust. The back is criss crossed for more assurance that your straps will stay put. There are also soft cups inside for more bust support. The fabric is also made to last longer than other suits, and I’ve found this one to be the best at not sagging or fading in color over time. As with the other Speed swimsuit we discussed, make sure to hand wash and air dry your suit to extend the life of it. The sizing seemed true to size and it keeps its shape quite well.
