Body piercings are rapidly moving main stream

Body piercings have become immensely popular over the past two decades, and just as tattoos have become mainstream, so an increasing number of body piercings are gradually moving into mainstream. With ear clasps already being worn by celebrities, it’s not going to be long before belly button rings will move to the forefront. Unhappily, some are allergic to metals and this is when a textile like bioplast, a plastic polymer, solves the problem!

Body friendly bioplast is designed for people with allergies that use body jewelry. It comes in many different colors in all shapes and sizes.

Non Allergic Bio Plastics

Bioplast (Bio plastic) is a non-metallic biopolymer material that can come in a multitude of colours, including metallic hues. The word combines bio which means life with the first five letters of plastic. It is especially safe and friendly to facial and other delicate piercings as it is less likely to cause any form of injury as a result of its ability to be flexible and to bend when the body moves. That said, nose rings, eyebrow rings, labrets, tragus piercings, lip piercings, and nipple rings all come in the body friendly textile.

Bioplast items can be sterilized without damage as the textile can be heated to about 250 degrees Farenheit (about 120 degrees Celsius). With that in mind, simply removing the stud, ring, or bar from the body and putting it into boiling hot water to kill bacteria ensures a high level of hygiene. It won’t melt.

Bio Plastics can be home made

Are bio-plastics safe for piercings?

Initially piercing artists were not comfortable using bioplast for new piercings, but as time has passed, an increasing number of piercing artists have found it preferable as the body has shown fewer allergic reactions using this body friendly polymer than it has with the various metals. There is also evidence that bioplast studs and bars are less likely to invite infection. With all new piercings there can be initial tearing, and this is more likely to happen with a rigid metal bar. So piercing shops are increasingly suggesting that this bio-polymer be used for the early months before switching to another material.

The polymer can also be cut to size by the customer, something that cannot be done with any metal jewerly. Manufacturers call this self-threading.

Currently bioplast studs, rods, and rings have become the material of choice for naval piercings and there has been a quite a boom in styles as a result. Consequently there is a large array of colours and styles for naval piercings (belly button rings).

Body piercing metals - Titanium, Silver, Gold, and Stainless Steel

Some metals are more likely to be pure than others – for example sterling silver is 100% silver while gold seldom comes in 22 carats as it is a very soft metal. In some countries, the standard is either 9 carats or 18 carats while in others it is 14 carats. The problem with gold is that it is sometimes mixed with nickel and many people are allergic to nickel.

Titanium offers the least allergic reactions and when the material is anodized has a range of colouring that neither bioplast nor the other metals can imitate. In addition, it is both stronger and lighter than the other metals. Medical procedures use the metal more frequently than others and if you are thinking of swimming in the sea frequently, it is a good choice because it doesn’t corrode.

While it is just as easy to disinfecting the various metals using boiling hot water, the degree of flexibility is not there, and when the body moves, there can be injuries if there are some contortionist positions.

The advantage that metals have over bioplasts is that the last much longer. You can keep a metal stud or bar in your piercing for six months to a year without worrying about it too much (although it is advisable to remove and clean every few months). Bioplasts, on the other hand, should be replaced every three or four months because they can dissolve as a result of interacting with the body.

Belly Rings are the Most Mainstream Body Jewerly

These belly rings are particularly nice because they come in different colors so one can match them to one's outfit. They are pretty as well. The nice thing about belly rings is that they are discreet and won't show up in the office.
