Drawing the Line: 8 Cool Blue Eyeliner Styles you Must Try!

Updated on September 11, 2014

Eyeliner is the greatest gift to womankind (Or mankind, if you’re a man and like applying eyeliner.) A single swipe of eyeliner goes a long way in defining your eyes. Armed with a dark, smudge-free eyeliner, you don’t need much else in your makeup bag to look stylish, because with well-defined, sultry-looking eyes, half the job is done!

Understanding its importance, the cosmetics industry has gone the extra mile in eyeliner manufacturing, wowing us with various kinds and colours of eyeliners. From brown to green to white to violet, we have them all! However, blue eyeliners are making quite a rage these days. They are available in so many colours, from turquoise and teal to navy and electric blue. With so many colours to play around with, makeup artists too have gotten creative with eyeliner styles.

Here are a couple of blue eyeliner styles that I came across and totally loved. Some of them are subtle and beautiful and some of them are really dramatic and call for a certain amount of artistic flair. Hope these images inspire you to try out a couple of styles from here, or all of them!

This eyeliner style is sure to make heads turn. Bold and dramatic, if you choose to sport this style, make sure to tone down the rest of your makeup. Since this style calls for the drawing of very thick lines that almost cover your entire eyelid, using an electric blue kohl kajal pencil will make your job easier. Now, all you need to do is achieve the winged eyeliner look and place two thick dots at the center of your lower lash line.

This is a great eyeliner style for those who aren’t fans of dramatic makeup, but also crave for a bit of avant-garde style. This cornflower blue shade is subtler than electric blue, but is bright enough to stand out. The lines are thinner than those in the previous look. Use a kohl pencil to draw out the cat eyes look, but remember to make your lines thick.

Intense, striking and glamorous, this eyeliner style makes a real statement. Perfect for evening wear, glam up your eyes with this style if you plan to go partying in the later half of the day. To achieve this look, draw thick lines on your upper lash lines using a glittering navy blue kohl pencil, or an electric blue eyeliner. Now, line the inner corners of your eyes with a while eyeliner.

Simple, yet striking, this is a great eyeliner style for everyday wear, or if you have to attend a formal gathering. To get this look, apply a visible line of teal kohl kajal to your waterline. Define your upper lash lines by applying a thin line of black eyeliner.

Sultry and seductive, this eyeliner style will up the style quotient of the simplest ensemble. It’s like the toned down version of the Smokey eyes look. To get this look, apply a thick line of electric blue liner on your lower lash line; now gently smudge it using a sponge applicator. You can also brush on a bit of light blue eyeshadow to get the fading effect. Use the same eyeliner to apply a thin line on your upper lash line. Thicken the lines as you reach the outer corners of your eyes.

This is another eyeliner style that is ideal for regular wear. Whether you are headed to work, a party or a casual brunch, this eyeliner style will surely compliment your makeup and attire. Simple to apply, all you need to do is apply a thick line of turquoise kohl on your upper lash line. Extend a fine line outwards from the outer corners of your eyes. To make this style look dramatic, stick on a layer of fake eyelashes.

This look is not for the faint-hearted. Futuristic and minimalist try on this eyeliner style if you aren’t afraid to experiment. To get this look, make a thick line on the top of the crease of your eyes using a turquoise eyeliner. Don’t apply eyeliner on your upper and lower lash lines. Also, refrain from using eyeshadow. Let the bold blue line be the only makeup you apply to your eyes.

Another wearable eyeliner look, this style looks stylish, without being too dramatic. To get this look right, apply glittering turquoise kohl on your lower lash lines and extend the line outwards from the inner and outer corners of your eyes. The angle of the extended line is important, notice how the line near the inner corner or the eye slopes downward, while the one near the outer corner extends horizontally. Leave your upper lash lines plain.

Hope you found these eyeliner styles interesting. Experiment with different shades of blue kohl kajal to match your makeup and attire.

@DDE: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Although, I must say that this trend will surely suit you. :) Maybe you could opt for a darker shade, like a navy or cobalt blue and try on a less dramatic style. Thanks again for stopping by.

@GmaGoldie: Thanks for your kind words. If you like eyeliner, then you should try this trend, at least once (You could start with the less dramatic styles.) A thin line of turquoise or electric blue kajal along your waterline really adds an interesting dimension to your eyes. Nothing to over-the-top, yet stylish and interesting. :)

@CyberShelley: Thanks for your appreciative comment. Not only on the young, if worn smartly, this trend looks great on women of any age. (I badgered my mom into trying it on. Though she was a little conscious in the beginning, all the compliments coming her way set everything right. Now, she's got a shade of blue kajal for herself!) :)

That was delightful! I don't think I will try it but I had not seen this trend. I am normally an eyeline person and I love blue but I cannot see this working for me.
