Updated on July 14, 2011

Clothing to Attract the Eyes

Burlesque clothing is all about the glamour and the thrill of dressing up and the best bit, you can apply a burlesque look to any kind of style of clothing. Many people go for the Moulin Rouge look. Which relies on sexy outfits with plenty of glitzy accessories but it works just as well with the addition of a corset to a pair of denims or a feather mask to add some glam.

Stockings and suspenders are a popular choice when choosing clothing to give a burlesque look. They add the sexiness to the outfit, although they are a little risky for a lot of people to actually wear if leaving the home, unless its fancy dress. They don't have to be on show, stockings and suspenders worn under a classy Moulin Rouge dress show great sophistication and glamour

The main thing to remember when looking for burlesque clothing if try to look for alluring, sexy costume with a sense of flamboyance and extravaganza

High heels are a must to achieve the burlesque look. Match your choice of high heel shoes or boots with the rest of your burlesque outfit to maximise glamour and give extra length to your legs. High heels will also give you more confidence to carry a more daring burlesque look.

Burlesque clothing doesn't have the same feel or look without a pair of stockings. There is an endless choice of designs that can be worn. Popular types of stockings include fishnet and hold ups. Many stocking can be worn to compliment other items of clothing but for best results your stockings would usually match a corset in color.

Suspender Belt

Suspenders work perfectly with a pair of stockings to give a sexy feel and look to your burlesque costume. If you are not wearing hold up stockings then you will need a suspender belt to keep up your stockings. Worn around the top of the hips, a suspender belt is used to hold up the stockings by fastening to the top of the stocking material, they can be adjusted to ensure a perfect fit. Matching stockings and suspender belts always work well.

Basques are a popular choice of clothing with burlesque. Worn in a similar way to a corset the benefit is that with a basque you don't need a suspender belt and in many cases, matching knickers. It's a sort of all in one outfit. There are many designs of basques you could choose from ranging from the very risky commonly know as a cat suit to the very sophisticated basques you see in cabaret shows.

Feathers - Look fantastic worn in the hair.

Gloves - Add elegance and sophistication to your look with a pair of long silky gloves. Often worn in the act of striptease to allow for more layers of clothing to be removed.

Masks - Give a real feel of theatre and opera to your burlesque look with a glitzy face piece. There are many styles to choose from and are cheap to buy.

Nipple Tassels

Lace and bows - By adding frills of lace and ribbon bows to an outfit you can create burlesque clothing with its own unique style.
