How to Choose the Most Complementary Women's Rings and Jewelry - Based on Skin Tone

Updated on February 25, 2018

Fashion Strategy for Choosing Women's Rings

Did you know that there is a strategy for choosing women's rings? This hub will be featuring different types of jewelry, but mostly it will be about how to buy women's rings.

Did you know that your skin tone determines if gold or silver look best on you? There are also colors of stone that will complement a distinct skin tone.

Did you know that there is a fashion rule that will help you choose the most complementary ring for your skin tone? It is true. If you do a Google search on gold and silver women's rings you will find a ton of helpful information about fashion strategies when choosing women's rings..

Personally, I have a love affair with women's rings. I think a woman looks bare without rings to adorn her fingers. The hands of a woman speak volumes about her. Do you notice women who are well kept and put together have beautifully clean and manicured fingernails? If she is married she has a beautiful diamond ring set in a gold or silver setting. Most women wear more than one ring.

Think about this. Your hands are always visible. When you talk you use them to express yourself or to make a point. You use your fingers to type and to write. You use your hands to express warmth and care as you caress your friend's hand in yours.

Hands are important and they do make a statement. That's why I always notice them. I love it when women can wear a variety of rings which accent and highlight each other. It's just so feminine.

Whenever I shop I always stop to look at women's rings. They don't have to be expensive but they do have to speak to me. They have to say beauty, femininity, style, charm, and uniqueness. As you can guess I have many rings and I interchange them frequently.

Yellow Gold Rings

Having a little fashion knowledge can help you when shopping for women's rings. For instance, did you know that some women look better in gold than others?

Have you ever had your 'colors' done? Have you been told your skin tone fits into the warm category meaning you are a Spring or a Fall? What does this mean? It means that your skin has a yellow undertone and that there are specific recommendations for the colors you should wear. When you learn which colors are best for your warm skin tone you will shop for complementary colors that bring out your true beauty.

In the realm of Jewelry that means You should wear Yellow Gold Jewelry. Yellow Gold best complements warm skin tones. If you put a silver ring on someone with a yellow undertone - it seems to clash. But yellow gold will radiate warmth and compliment you.

My skin has warm undertones. The Fashion Expert that did a Color evaluation for me said that of the two categories of warm tones (Spring and Fall) that I fit in the Spring category. I have always gravitated toward Gold Jewelry. Before I got married I was looking for a diamond ring setting. My mother said, Mekenzie - make sure your diamond is set in silver ... she continued by saying that her mother told her to make sure she got gold and that she has always regretted it ... Well, guess what? I have always regretted that my first diamond ring was set in silver.

I did not understand back then that my mother's skin tone fit in the cool, summer category with blue undertones to her skin. My mother's hand looks exquisite sporting her diamond ring setting ... which is of course now in silver.

On my 25th Wedding anniversary, I finally got the diamond ring setting I had always dreamed of wearing. It is a stunning oval diamond with an accenting diamond at each side ... and it was set in gold. I continue to buy mostly gold women's rings ..... unless, of course, an antique silver ring calls out to me and I just can't leave the counter without taking it with me.

Fun Facts about Gold

  • Gold is very rare compared to diamonds and it is considered to be the world's most precious metal.
  • Gold is much softer when compared to other metals.
  • Gold is about eight times heavier than any other metal on earth
  • Currently, the country of South Africa is considered as the largest producer of gold in the world.
  • You can make a 60-mile wire out of a single ounce of gold.
  • Gold nuggets are very hard to find, but the biggest one that has ever been found weighed over two hundred pounds in Australia. The largest gold nugget found in the US was just under 200 pounds in California. Both were smelted.

White Gold Rings

Women who fit in the Cool category are known by some fashion gurus as Winter's or Summers. Their skin has cool undertones and when you put a silver ring on their finger - it stands out and makes a statement.

My mother was a beautiful woman who was petite and feminine in every way. She had blonde hair and brown eyes and a gorgeous figure to boot. She always looked put together ... like she was ready to step out on the town at a moment's notice. My mom fits in the summer fashion category and had a cool undertone.

Perhaps it was my mom who inspired me to accessorize and who gave me a love for rings. She had a jewelry case full of women's rings and all of her jewelry was sterling silver, white gold or plain silver. When I was a little girl her rings would entertain me for hours. As I placed them on my fingers I would pretend I was having tea with Aunt Nellie or going out to dinner with Daddy.

Choosing to beautify your hands with women's rings will bring attention your way. People naturally notice women's hands and the rings that grace her fingers.

Aquamarine Poem

by Shay Jones and Leigh Hearn

Your eyes are a blueish-green,
They look like aquamarine,
Diamonds are radiant-white,
They shine like stars in the night.

Precious Gemstone Rings

Precious Gemstones bring exotic colors and beauty to rings. When choosing women's rings with gemstones, many women will shop for their birthstone. But if you aren't a fan of your birthstone - don't let that limit you. There are no rules about wearing precious gemstones.

In keeping with your color profile of warm or cool, you may notice how different gemstones seem to look better when placed in gold or silver.

For instance, the cool tones of the blue sapphire or purple amethyst are best showcased in a silver setting. A Baltic Amber gemstone or a tigers eye which are warm tones naturally goes with the warmth of yellow gold.

When choosing a diamond ring setting you don't have to weigh which type of gold looks best. A diamond ring looks GREAT in either Yellow Gold or White Gold. It's a good thing too because diamonds are a girl's best friend. The question is "Does your skin tone look better in Yellow Gold or Silver?"

CLEANING GEMSTONES: Gemstones require gentle treatment to avoid cracks or breaks. Use a dab of dish detergent on a cotton swab to gently rub off dirt and grime. Use the other side of the cotton swab to rinse off. Use a very soft cloth to pat dry.
