Castle History
The castle has been around for many centuries. Early castles were first built around the 5th century B.C. Although much smaller then castles built later, these early castles still served the same purpose. Many early castles were built with wood and didn't stand a chance against large armies such as the Romans. As time progressed, more castles were built with stone.
Stone and mud walls began being built around 1500 B.C., as well as towers. These key elements were also included in the construction of castles in later centuries. Castles were made up of many different features. Around the 5th century B.C., castles began to pop up all over England. It wasn't until medieval Europe that we saw massive castles being built all over Europe around the 9th century. One of the earliest known stone castles was built in Doué-la-Fontaine, France, around the middle of the 9th century.
Stone castles offered much more protection then wooden castles. Although they cost more to be built, the security from the castle was worth it. The large stone walls and towers protected the inside of the castle and "earthworks" protected the outside. Castles were placed on higher grounds, given the castle the advantage point. Ditches and hills protected the outside of the castle, making it harder for the enemy to converge on the castle.
Castles remained in England and all over Europe for many centuries, all the way up to the mid 1850s. They protected the men, women, and children that were confined in their walls. Castles were a symbol of power, royalty, and strength. At one time, castles covered all of Europe and England. Today, they are a symbol of our past and heritage.

Thank you for this great, artistic hub :) Love the pictures and enjoy tattoo art. Still don't have a tattoo yet....but the castles should do make me think. :) Have a wonderful week.
Another impressive post on tattoos. These would certainly make you feel like royalty.
I found this extremely intriguing when I saw the title. Years ago, I had a fax cover sheet of a castle that was down a winding road. I had it designed by a friend with the stipulation that it be viewed through a keyhole on a wooden door. As intended, it was both mysterious and striking. Thanks for the memories.
Wow! Looks like a painting on a canvas. So beautiful as always, wonderful tattoo designs.
Thanks! Voted up and pinned!
Beautiful and amazing creations. Hard to pick one of them. Thanks for sharing with us. - Prasetio -
These are amazing... I love the Disney tat back especially, as I am a huge Disney fan. I would give anything to get more tats but I have health issues now that make it a bad idea. I enjoyed looking at these so much.
Hi lyric, who would have thought of a castle tattoo? saying that, they really are beautiful, I love all of them! another great article and voted up and shared! nell
Hi lyric
I never would have guessed that there was castle tattoos. My favorite one here is the last one. "A dream is a wish your heart makes"
Take care and have a great weekend my friend. :)

What an interesting idea for a tattoo. I had never thought about a castle. While difficult to choose, I believe the last pic was my favorite one. The lack of color for me represented a more realistic looking castle, and I liked how the sentiment was wrapped in there, too. Per usual V+++ and Shares.
To a most talented hubber,
Kim
my goodness these castles are now my new favorite of your tats they just blew me away!!!!
Oh, wow, I don't know why I am always surprised at the different kinds of tattoos. I would never have thought of a castle, but they look amazing.
My dad was in the Army and so my mom went over to Germany when she was pregnant and she would tell me about looking out of the hospital window when my brother was born and seeing up on a hill, a beautiful castle. Seems magical to me : )
Up and more and sharing (well, I already shared earlier, as I saw this, but was unable to comment at the time)
God bless, Faith Reaper
